Product categories that Re.Wood can be used in.
- Audio Products -
It is still a cellulose based material with porosity and therefore still has good acoustic properties.
- Consumer Electronics -
Since it can be molded, it can be used in consumer electronics to make user touch points friendlier and give products a warmth.
- Interior -
It can be used in areas that don't require structural integrity, specifically flexural stresses. It does well under compressive stresses.
- Home Decor -
Companies that produce furniture in house can use their waste wood into complimentary home decor products.

Re.Wood
The most sustainable alternative to traditional wood.
-
Re.Wood is about revitalizing value in what is otherwise perceived to be waste. It is about creating versatile and scalable systems to allow stakeholders (furniture, interior & consumer tech industries) to bring more value to their customers by repurposing the waste wood they create into new products.
-
The process takes waste wood from waste streams at the source (factories, studios, workshops). Combines it with a natural binder harvested from renewable sources to create a composite material that is moldable. This in itself is a non-destructive process where wood isn't chipped away to obtain desired shapes and profiles.

The goal of the project is to challenge our perception of value and promote a culture that honours, respects, and values a material to it's fullest.

Wooden Foam

Experimented with fusing bioplastics and sawdust to discover a material with unique properties, surface finish, and use cases.

-

Image 4 - We used different grades of ground pista shells as a coating on the surface of the foam. The material was flexible and had two sides with different surface textures.

-

Image 5 - By changing the cooling patterns in our casting process, we discovered it's possible to create a 'layered' material. This gives us two properties through just one process.

Image 8 - Under the microscope, we can see the difference between our wood-infused foam and that of regular industrial foam.

Experiments with 3D printing ceramics at .studio

Tried different additives to see different outcomes post firing. Chalk (calcium carbonate) and saw dust which gets burnt away altering the porosity.
-
Additionally, played around with grasshopper to experiment with different geometries.
-
And finally, experimented with the idea of morphogenesis and trying to grow crystals on the ceramic pieces.

(5/9) Keraflex - By Kerafol Gmbh. Is green (unfired) porcelain tape. It's based on ceramic raw materials with an organic binder.

This tape is highly flexible and can be molded into numerous forms.
-
Keraflex can be laminated (joined) together with ease by using a slurry which forms a strong and invisible bond.
-
Because of its thinness it only needs to be air dried before firing at 1280 degrees celsius. It may be fired as many times later to build layers of glazes, prints or any other decorative post processes.
-
Additionally, it does not need to be fired to bisque.

A metal alloy that exhibits some very unique properties. These properties allow it to be used in a variety of niche use cases. Stents that help blocked arteries. Retainers/braces that don't require tightening as frequently. Bone staples to hold bones together while they heal.

Made from organic cotton infused with bees wax, organic jojoba oil & tree resin(hmm but what resin?)

It's washable and reusable for upto a year or until it goes soft and loses its self adherence.

It's compostable and does well as a natural firestarter
