✨ Freshly squeezed on paper ✨
This time I wanted to capture the feeling of summer — light, warmth, and that refreshing pause we all crave. It’s funny how something as simple as a jug of lemonade can bring back whole memories of lazy afternoons.

I wasn’t sure if I could get the glass, ice, and reflections right (glass is such a tricky thing to paint!) — but I’m glad I tried. 🍋🎨

🌞 What’s your favorite drink that instantly feels like summer?

Finished! Well, I'll might add the background later 😉

This watercolor is my study after a painting by Jan Frans van Dael — a Flemish painter who became one of the great flower artists in Paris around 1800.
His bouquets are incredible: detailed, balanced, and full of little surprises like insects or hidden blooms.

When I first saw his flowers, I thought: “How on earth do you even start something like this?”

The answer, of course: one petal at a time. 🌸

Swipe to see the progress, from faint pencil lines to one flower, another one, and finally, a full bouquet in bloom.

What captures your sight first? The bold tulips, the delicate roses, or the little details hiding in the shadows?

At some point while painting this I asked myself:
“How many petals is too many petals?”
I still don’t know the answer 😅

This rose cluster tested all my patience and love for detail — and maybe taught me that both are the same thing.

One brushstroke at a time, I kept going. And somewhere between the first bud and the last bloom, it started to feel like a small celebration of resilience.

Swipe to see how it started 🌹🌿

I continue learning from the Dutch masters of the past centuries.

This time I chose Jaques de Gheyn.

I copied this painting stroke by stroke, trying to understand how de Gheyn balanced softness and precision, life and stillness. Every petal, every bug had something to teach me.

And honestly, sometimes I just enjoy letting someone else’s composition guide me — like a meditative walk through someone else's garden.

Have you ever tried copying a work you love?
Not to imitate, but to learn, to feel, to absorb?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Which part of this scene catches your eye first? 🌷🦋 🐌🪰

Looking for exploring new styles and learning from grand masters of Dutch Still Life, I attempted to reproduce this Jan Frans van Dael oli painting in watercolor.

Do you think it looks better with background, vase and marble tabletop, or without background, like a typical botanical painting?

I will not say it was an easy project. But I loved the experience and will do more.

Do you have a favorite painting you would like to reproduce?

My work was selected for the semifinal. Fingers crossed for next round!

Rise of the Bold is a reflection of the strength and resilience I see in my native Ukraine.

The hollyhock, a flower so common in Ukrainian gardens, rises tall with unwavering determination, much like the people of my country.

In its vibrant magenta bloom, I see the spirit of my homeland — bold, proud, and unyielding.

The flower’s vertical growth, pushing toward the sky, mirrors the courage of those who fight for freedom, defying the darkness with each step forward.

As the hollyhock blooms despite the harshness of the elements, so too do the people of Ukraine rise amidst conflict, with unbreakable will and hope.

This painting is a tribute to their bravery, their ambition for a peaceful future, and the enduring beauty of a nation that refuses to bow.

The magenta petals, rich with meaning, remind me of Ukraine’s vibrant heart and its people’s unwavering resolve to rise, no matter the struggle.
