Traditionally, dreamcatchers are decorative items - albeit with a serious meaning behind them - and originating from the Native American Indian peoples. Designed to hang in sleeping areas, they were believed to catch bad dreams, only allowing good dreams to reach those slumbering below. Every Spinning Dreams dreamcatcher is a unique take on the traditional design, which typically incorporated nat
ural objects, beading and feathers. Every piece to leave the workshop is individually designed with the specific dreamer in mind, then woven and finished to create a completely one-off piece for your own beautiful dreams. Many of the designs utilise pre-loved pieces of jewellery or other decorative items that have been donated to the workshop, and have then been thoughtfully worked into a whole new existence - a gorgeous interpretation of ‘upcycling!’
Now, in 2021, the workshop has evolved to a veritable, but still very small, factory, producing a whole range of handmade items, from seashell bunting, bag and wine glass charms, jewellery and lanterns. Please handle your dreamcatcher with the utmost care, as it is a delicate decorative item. Every single one has been lovingly hand made right here in the heart of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, and has typically involved many hours of painstaking work. Hang your Spinning Dreams design indoors somewhere to catch a little bit of the light (preferably natural, but never directly in strong sunlight - you want to keep all those beautiful colours intact), and if you can, somewhere with a gentle through breeze. Then watch it sparkle as it spins and of course, gets to work catching dreams, as well as the eye. If you'd like a unique dream catcher made for you, please do drop me a line. I'm happy to try to accommodate any chosen theme, colour or design where possible! May all your bad dreams be caught.......and all your Spinning Dreams come true. N.B: Dreamcatchers are sadly not cat or weather proof, as they do their best work indoors hung up high - and, as they contain very small decorative items, they also need to be kept away from little hands.
