Today, I’m attaching the shell onto my Sea Snail’s body (This is actually my next free pattern, so make sure to follow along so you don’t miss the release!) But this technique works for so many projects—most commonly when sewing an open head directly onto a closed body.

The main technique is super simple: insert your needle right under the base of the stitch—first into the body, then through the stitch on the shell.Make sure you go directly under the 'V' shape of the stitch, catching the little horizontal bar right beneath it. Just repeat this all the way around. It creates a super clean seam and makes the piece extremely stable with zero wobbling.

Here are a few quick tips to make it even easier:

1. Add a little bit of stuffing right before you close the final gap. This keeps the shape firm and adds extra stability.

2. Sew with a thin cotton or acrylic thread matching your yarn color instead of chenille yarn. It’s way stronger, doesn't snap or shed, and if you make a mistake, it’s ten times easier to unravel.

3. Keep an even tension. Gently pull and tighten the thread every few stitches so the seam stays snug and invisible without bunching up.

4. Start and finish at the same spot. I usually start on the side where it’s less visible. That way, your tail ends meet up at the end, making it easy to tie a secure knot before hiding the thread inside the body.

5. Use sewing pins or stitch markers to pin the piece in place before you start. It keeps the part from shifting out of alignment while you sew!
