An American symbolist meets Barcelona craft

Nanimarquina and Eames Office present a rug collection based on original works by American artist Lucia Eames. Raised by Charles and Ray, Lucia spent decades developing a visual language built on symbolism and joy. Her recurring motifs: butterflies, birds, suns, and abstract organic forms, have now been translated into Nanimarquina's woven rugs, bringing her symbolic vocabulary into the home in textile form.

For us, 3 Days of Design marks the beginning of summer in the Nordics. Each June, Copenhagen fills with exhibitions, installations, showrooms and events our friends, brands and collaborators are bringing to life across the city. 🌀

Greetings from our showroom 👋

Spread across two floors, our showroom is regularly reimagined by our interior designers, showcasing new arrivals alongside timeless favourites. This summer, the walls are once again home to a seasonal art exhibition by Helsinki-based visual artist Onni Alanko, whose paintings explore the layered character of urban spaces.

The house Alvar Aalto built for a friend

Completed in 1970 in Ekenäs, Finland, Villa Skeppet was the last private home Alvar Aalto designed during his career. Created for his close friend, writer Göran Schildt and his wife Christine, the house became known locally as Skeppet – “the ship” – thanks to its striking roofline and stately silhouette.

“You spend too much time abroad. I’ll build you a house that will make you stay here in Finland,” Aalto once told Schildt.

Today, Villa Skeppet operates as a home museum and remains one of Aalto’s most intimate works: a striking landmark shaped by friendship, architecture and the sea.

The famous flock of Iittala

Oiva Toikka’s iconic glass birds first took flight in 1972 as a playful response to the strict functionalism dominating Nordic design at the time. Inspired by nature and developed in close collaboration with master glassblowers, each bird carries its own distinct character. Once familiar companions in Finnish childhood homes, Toikka’s birds continue to charm new generations.

Homes we love, from our community

One of the best parts of what we do is spotting pieces from our selection out in the wild – in homes filled with books, morning light, bold colour choices and objects collected over time. Every space tells a different story, and we’re excited to start sharing more of them here. 🗝️

This time, we’re stepping into a traditional Sicilian limestone house brought to life with striking red-and-blue contrasts, a softly curated home filled with warm wood tones and timeless classics like the Wishbone Chair, and a thoughtfully layered Vitra collection where every piece feels perfectly at home.

Outdoor tablescapes for summer

Ferm Living's tableware brings together sculptural forms and Mediterranean influences – from the frosted glass Fountain centrepiece to the playful Erena cloche keeping dishes warm under the open sky.
Created in collaboration with the Utzon Center, the Erena collection draws inspiration from Can Lis, Jørn Utzon’s iconic Mallorca residence and one of the architectural gems of the 20th century.

Shirley Villavicencio Pizango’s colourful world comes to life

Together with Serax, Design Stories visits the Ghent studio of Belgian–Peruvian artist Shirley Villavicencio Pizango. Also known as Shurleey, she is celebrated for her vibrant paintings, where pottery, people and houseplants exist side by side in richly layered interiors inspired by her Peruvian roots and life in Belgium.

Now, the imagined pottery from her paintings has taken shape as a hand-painted ceramics collection for Serax, named after her home village Santiago de Borja.
