I'm Karine, I'm in my forties and I'm a french book and paper artist who lives between France and Luxembourg.

If to be a nurse used to be my job in the past, my art became my full time job in 2012. I love reading, I love books and I need to create with my hands. I'm a self taught artist who works with passion but most of all with craft knifes, blades, tweezers, glue, wire, led's, a magnifying lamp, cutting mats and of course, PAPER ! It can be pages of book when I'm doing my book sculptures or white quali

ty Canson paper when I chose to create light boxes. My method is simple:

- I read a story and my inspiration quickly activate my brain and my hands ! At this moment, I know my nights are going to be short ! :)

- Then I wonder how I could represent this story through a 3D scene or a light box.

- I often need to read the book several times to note the small details I could recreate.

- After some sketches I put all my passion and patience in designing in Photoshop the layers for the light boxes or in using a book and its own pages to recreate in another way the story. Good to know: I don't use other papers in my book sculptures because I want to prove that a book is rich by itself and don't need anything else.

- Lightning is quickly became another passion. It gives so more poetry and realism ! No need to add that in my light boxes, it makes everything ! Good to know: My partner AKA "The master of lights", helps me and teaches me a lot in this part. But be sure, the most important for me is QUALITY ! I don't care to spend nights or months to create each piece. Actually I love that, but it's also like that I'm sure I respected the book, the story, the author and even myself ! About me...

My name is Karine, I am a french book sculptor living between France and Luxembourg.

I am reading passionate, I love old books and I need to be creative with my hands.

Since 2012, through miniature and intricate 3D paper scenes, I try to give to second hand books another life and way of expression. For me, it's a way to offer the possibility of pursuing the journey, to excite the dream beyond the end of the story.

My sculptures are the concretization of my recognition and gratitude for the journeys I made during my readings, and the expression of my admiration for authors or incredible persons (my next sculpture will be on the passionate and passionating George Whitman). It is a chance to be able to thank beyond words and therefore, I try to return what I received, as high as it was given to me!
