A little update from me. ❤️

I was sad to have to postpone Creative Week, but when family life needs your time and attention, it really isn't a difficult decision. Family always comes first, and I'm grateful for everyone's understanding and kindness.

Friday morning Watercolour Class will be back next week, with our Monday and Wednesday groups returning the following week. I can't wait to welcome everyone back to the studio.

During this quieter time, I've still found moments to paint. I created this piece, Lady of the Meadow, as a watercolour subject for class, and I really do think deeply about every tutorial I design. From the techniques we explore to the colours, composition and feeling behind each piece, I want every painting to be both enjoyable and rewarding to create.

I loved painting this woman wandering through a meadow with flowers over her shoulder. There's something peaceful, hopeful and quietly joyful about her.

Thank you all for being the best, and for trusting me to guide you on your watercolour journey. It is a privilege I never take for granted.

It's a beautiful day here today. I hope you're able to enjoy a little sunshine, time in the garden, a walk, or simply a quiet moment for yourself.

I hope you all enjoy looking at the gorgeous sweet peas my Continuing Artists painted last week… 🌸

Full of vivid colour, delicate flowing petals and beautiful moments of expressive ink work throughout. It was such a lovely class for experimenting, loosening up and allowing the watercolour to move naturally across the paper.

Every painting captured something completely unique… a wee ray of sunshine through the studio...

Just a little peek at this week’s painting in the studio… sweet peas 🌸

We’ll also be using ink in this piece. Ink has such powerful colour and creates the most beautiful movement alongside watercolour… bold in some areas, soft and delicate in others.

My sweet peas are only just starting to shoot up in the garden so we may be painting them a little early… but there’s something lovely about painting the flowers we’re waiting for.

It was just so lovely welcoming everyone back to the studio today… after our Easter break. I really do miss seeing everyone.

A favourite week of mine…
Flowers.

This week we’re focusing on the glorious poppy…
loose, expressive… letting the paint move, letting go just a little.

There’s something about painting flowers that feels like a quiet exhale…

and today was exactly that

Can’t wait to see the rest of the poppies unfold through the week…
and to welcome our beginners in on Wednesday.

There’s something really special about this one…
“A Farmer’s Old Friend” 🚜

Every single watercolour is different…
each one full of character…

and honestly, they are just amazing

It’s such a joy to guide my continuing artists each week…
to watch confidence grow…
and to see everyone finding their own way with watercolour

And something I never take for granted…
how welcoming you all are to those just starting out…
that kindness really matters 💛, a number of these paintings are just a few weeks out of the beginners block .

A massive thank you to Sarah Pennington for the beautiful reference photo… it sparked something really special

Good morning!
… what a beautiful one it is

I sat down for a quick wildflower painting before heading out to the garden

Just loose… simple… letting the paint do its thing

This is exactly what we’ll be starting with in our first week of watercolours

Flowers… but not overworked

Not fussy.... just a little thinking...
Just learning how to let them flow

I’ve even added a new little flower into the mix…
a very quick one… perfect as a soft filler

It’s only a week until our brand new beginners Wednesday afternoon class begins

The class is already half full…
and you’re very welcome to join us

On days like this… the gazebo will be going up
for anyone who fancies painting outside

I sat down at the kitchen table to paint

I thought I’d do something detailed
but I realised I wasn’t in a detailed mood.
So I didn’t force it.
A quiet hour away from admin.

no pencil… no plan… just picking up the brush and letting it move.

And that’s the beauty of watercolour

when you settle into a painting
it softens… it flows… it becomes something else.

it’s okay to paint for you.
not to practise…
not for something to frame…
just to sit with it… and let it be

A really lovely Highland cow workshop this morning , well done everyone! 🐮✨ Every single cow had its own brilliant personality. I love seeing how confidently you’re all painting!

Just a little heads-up: on Tuesday evening at 8pm I’ll be sending out the emails for the Acrylic Winter Wonderland Workshop. I’ll share a photo of the piece tomorrow so you can have a look at what we’ll be creating.

There will only be 10 spaces available for this one, and it will be held on 7th December — my very last workshop of the year. I’m thinking mince pies, cosy vibes and some humble art, with a touch of Bob Ross-style magic ❄️🌲
