A weekend away to recharge. Catch up with a friend, lots of blether and a visit to the Fortingall Yew (something of a pilgrimage for me). Walk along the Birks of Aberfeldy. Hot chocolate at the Highland Chocolatier.
A rainy afternoon is a good excuse to stay in and paint (watercolour with oil pastels) and read the (several) books picked up earlier

Great to get a few hours in the studio today to work on this. Life and painting haven't been as balanced lately as I'd like. Got lots of paintings in progress but struggling to really finish anything. I think this is nearly there but will need to wait and see how it dries in.

Last day for me to welcome you to my studio today

I have enjoyed all the chats with every single visitor to my garden studio. It's Father's Day and a very fitting day for the last day of my first Open Studios event. My Dad built this wonderful space for me about 6 years ago but was still putting finishing touches to it when lockdown came and he couldn't make the journey anymore. There were always a few snags, drips from the salvaged roof panels that no matter how many times we tried to seal them the water eventually seeped through.
We finally had part of the roof replaced in January and it was lovely to finally be able to arrange the space the way I wanted instead of around the drips. Then I got all the boxes back from storage and it's been an ongoing task to sort through them and arrange the space again.
Taking part in Open Studios gave me the push I needed to sort it out and with the help of some very good friends it is looking amazing! Thank you to (my daughter's friend) Stella and to .beauty.apothecarist and for encouraging and organising me and helping me turn this space into the wonderful sanctuary of creativity it has been this week. I look forward to welcoming you back for some creativity and chats.

And the biggest thank you to my Dad - I am continually in awe of his vision and ability to build things. Without his gift to me of this space I would not have got to where I am in my artistic journey. Imperfect as it was this studio has given me the opportunity to become an artist. I love it.
