The Glassy Witch - Illyrianth Mosaics

The Glassy Witch - Illyrianth Mosaics Mosaic and glass artist....wait. I can say artist can't I? Sounds terribly presumptuous to call myse

Tiffany style suncatchers, panels, windows, the occasional trinket box, and my first love, mosaics. I also make fused glass and silver jewellery, fused glass mosaic accents, and free-standing fused glass sculptures and wall art. Commissions are welcome, and if you see a piece in the albums that you want, just let me know. If it's already gone, I can endeavour to make a similar one, although no tw

o pieces will ever be identical. I am pretty dreadful at social media in general, so I am also available at Glassywitch.uk

These four images are the same piece, without light behind, and with. The first two images are of the "right" side of the glass. The glass patterning I specifically chose from the sheet. These patterns do not run right through the glass though, which can sometimes feel disappointing, as the "back" of the glass can look quite plain and featureless. But just LOOK what happens in the light!

So next time you see a glass piece, particularly if you are indoors, and the piece is against the wall - don't be put off if it looks a little dull. It's entirely possible that with a little light, a lot of magic can happen :)

Now, he's reversed at the moment, and I still need to cut out the eyes. I am torn between three options....plain flat black, iridescent black, or fused black cabochons to give them some depth.

I'm tending towards plain flat black but wondered what y'all thought? The cabs would be a pest to make the right size and shape but maybe they'd be worth the effort?

I mean, asking a question like that is an obvious attempt to ask people to comment so more OTHER people see my glass, but I believe that is what I am meant to do. I'm just really not very good at it.

Went off to the tractor festival this weekend and it was BRILLIANT. SO many older tractors trundling about, it was so lovely to see.

The plan HAD been for Dearly Belovèd to do a bit of demonstrating with the portable forge and little anvil...but obviously a tinder dry field was not the place for such shenanigans, so I came along and had some glass out too, to fill up the space.

Met some fabulous people and found out that my card idea with a little glassy keepsake was not quite the daft idea I originally thought.

Making some things ahead of the Tractor festival - don't judge me, I'm from Devon. A nice, shiny (or not shiny) tractor impresses me more than a Lambo 🤪

Hello! Yeah, I've been quiet. Been kicked quite profoundly in the head by what I am going to call a summer cold (Yes, in a heatwave. No, I don't know how I do it either) so I have been basically dead since Saturday evening.

Anyway I must be a little better today because I saw this and was enraged. Clearly AI generated, when it would have been no huge effort to do using any of the multiple packages that exist for creating this very sort of thing. And if they used AI on this, guaranteed it was used to generate the entire "course" and the supporting patterns they claim to provide. Please don't fall for this claptrap. Go to a class if you feel the need, or just grab hold of any of the really great resources provided for you - entirely free - by so many glassers out there. Or just go ahead and teach yourself by trial and error. (Although it's what I did, I wouldn't recommend that course of action either. The resources available now were not quite so plentiful or accessible back then 😁)

But PLEASE don't pay for rubbish like this, which will be nothing more than badly-regurgitated nonsense (made up from everything people have already willingly shared entirely for free) coupled with absolutely useless patterns that won't work and will leave you feeling like a failure.

And now. I am going back to bed.

As a slight detour from the usual fare....DON'T tell me climate change isn't real. This is NOT simply "natural variations" - the trend is definitely tending in the "really bloody bad news for us all" direction. My woollies are on hay already - and the grass, as you can see, looks more like a sandy beach than a field. And this is after a lot of work to get it green again.

That people are going out in this weather and insisting on lighting fires - sometimes with the actual intent of sparking a major conflagration - irks me beyond all measure. Feels like at this point, supermarkets should be fined HEAVILY for continuing to sell disposable barbecues for a start.

These two kingfishers are on a piece of A4 paper.

The one on the left required 122cm of copper foil, the right needed 118cm.

I'm going to measure how much lead each one needs too, just out of curiosity.
