The Glassy Witch - Illyrianth Mosaics

The Glassy Witch - Illyrianth Mosaics Mosaic and glass artist....wait. I can say artist can't I? Sounds terribly presumptuous to call myse

Tiffany style suncatchers, panels, windows, the occasional trinket box, and my first love, mosaics. I also make fused glass and silver jewellery, fused glass mosaic accents, and free-standing fused glass sculptures and wall art. Commissions are welcome, and if you see a piece in the albums that you want, just let me know. If it's already gone, I can endeavour to make a similar one, although no tw

o pieces will ever be identical. I am pretty dreadful at social media in general, so I am also available at Glassywitch.uk

See this? It's 51 rough-cut glass pieces that will go in to making a single glass piece. This week will see me fiddling with them for ages after work, grinding each piece, then foiling, and finally soldering it all together and praying for no heat cracks, or other clumsy-related disasters.

Not sure why I do this to myself.

It's my dearest Mama's 80th birthday today. I mean, there comes a time when candles on a birthday cake become less a celebration and more a fire hazard, and we have definitely reached that point.

So yeah, this is my mum, from a few years ago, obviously (dear GODS I can see my niece in these images). I'm not about to put the picture I took this weekend - despite the fact it's hilarious - because...well, did I ever tell you about when she gave me a black eye? ;)

In all seriousness though, just wanted to declare to all and sundry that she's really not a bad old stick. I'm actually relatively (you see what I did there?) fond of her. Don't tell her that though.

It's been a short weekend with a lot of travelling for me. First full day home since Tuesday (toddled off to see the Mothership on Wednesday evening, braving the absolute shower that is our railway system. Yes. It managed to meet my very low expectations), so it was leaves and bullrushes today to get some bits out of the way so I can concentrate on something else for next week. The difficulty I'm having is intending to do one thing, then getting totally sidetracked by something else. Today I *meant* to cut kingfishers. But then I caught my sleeve on these stems, and then spotted a pot of leaves and bullrushes I hadn't foiled yet...And then saw that if I just rearranged this bit of the shed over here, I could reach THOSE bits so I could do some magpies, but then realised the thing I had moved was on top of some ornament discs, so sheep, OBVIOUSLY...

Yeah. Be thankful I keep my glass powders in the house or else they would have dragged me off on another tangent.

I'm blaming the cat.

Right then glassy types. I have a bunch of these things rolling around in my shed that I do not want or need. I did not ask for them, and have no use for them. If you want one, drop me a message and you can have one for the price of the postage.

I've had what can only be termed a "bit of a week", this week. Part of it involved an MRI which I very much did not like, wouldnotrecommendzerostars...Although Dearly Beloved informs me that I do, in fact, have a brain, despite all evidence to the contrary.

My eyes have been bad, like REALLY bad all week, which have precluded my playing with glass for most of it. When your hand/eye coordination is as bodged together as mine, adding extra wonk to the eyes makes life around glass even more dangerous than usual.

Foiling has been today's occupation, since I had a LOT of glass puzzles I'd created a while back, ready to be made up. My hands hurt as much as my eyes now though, so soldering will wait a while.

At a bit of a loss what to-do of late what with no transport, so no way of attending any shows, but such is the way of things. Hope you're all having more fun than me :)

I might call this one "Hanging garden of Basingstoke" 😉

Oh dear gods, so FIDDLY! However, very proud of myself for a)remembering to separate my larger glass scraps, b) remembering to then USE them, and c) conquering some pieces that were smaller than my little fingernail :)

Another gardening day, with mangels planted, grass cut, watering completed...

Obviously, I did the all-important supervisory work along with my woolly minions. It was all bit much for Jingle, who needed a lie down.

Cleaned a handful of flowers and found a wave which I had, for some inexplicable reason, put in the drawer where the shoe polish lives.

I might actually get round to making something this week after work. But don't hold me to that
