🌿 Plant Spotlight: Variegated Crassula Swaziensis ‘Money maker’
One I really enjoy using in arrangements because it adds lovely height and fullness without feeling too heavy 🌿
It belongs to the Crassulaceae family, like the famous Jade Plant (Crassula ovata), often known as the money plant. The soft velvety leaves have a beautiful pale green colour with creamy edges, and with plenty of sunshine the edges can turn a pretty pink too, which makes every plant look slightly different depending on the season and light. It’s also a very easy-going succulent and perfect for a bright windowsill.
🌿 Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Loves bright indirect light with a little morning or evening sun. More light can help bring out the pink edges.
💧 Water: Let the soil dry out fully between waterings. It’s very drought tolerant and dislikes sitting in wet soil.
🪴 Soil: Best in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
🌡️ Temperature: Prefers warmer temperatures and is not frost hardy, so best protected indoors during UK winters.
✂️ Propagation: Easy to propagate from stem cuttings once allowed to callous over, or even from a single leaf.
🌿 Fun Facts:
• The nickname “Moneymaker” comes from its coin-like leaves and the long feng shui tradition of Crassulas symbolising prosperity, wealth, and good fortune.
• Unlike many jade-type succulents, its leaves are covered in a soft velvety fuzz, giving the plant a frosted appearance.
• Produces clusters of small, star-shaped, creamy-white flowers.
• Can develop thick branching stems and even be shaped like a mini bonsai.
• Toxic if ingested, so best kept away from pets and small children.
Such a lovely plant for adding soft texture and colour to arrangements 🌿
