Right now this is the roughest it'll ever look, and that's the best bit.

Pueblo comes off the bench at Badalassi Carlo in Tuscany with a dry, matte, almost sanded finish. Run your thumb over it and it drags a little. Every day in a pocket smooths that down and draws the oils up, so the to***co slowly deepens and the corners start to catch the light. The wallet that leaves us and the one you're carrying next summer won't really be the same thing.

Hand stitched here in Northern Ireland, one at a time, then wrapped up and sent on its way. This one's off to its new owner today.

Cards in the front, notes folded behind. Nothing else needed.

Slowing down can sometimes be a challenge. Most days something has to force me to stop worrying, stop questioning and just be.

The leather is what does it. There's no rushing a stitch, so I don't try. Hands working, mind going still, one patient pull after another until the racket in my head quiets down.

A good cigar works the same way. It takes its time whether you like it or not, so you learn to take yours and enjoy the now.

Strange, that it takes something small and unhurried to drag you back into your own life. Put the phone down. Lift your head. Be here, in the only moment you're actually given.

Maybe that's the whole reason I do this. To hand a man an excuse to stop.

This leather gets better because you use it.

Badalassi Carlo Pueblo in Tabacco. Vegetable-tanned in Tuscany, dyed all the way through. It starts with a rough, matte, almost suede-like grain. Then it lives in your pocket. Every touch burnishes it darker and smoother until it's got a patina no two are alike.
