Come on the full journey with me. It all starts by selecting the paper size and the colours I feel like painting with. With this one I was feeling quite dark. 💜

If you are wondering why a butterfly called ‘Bruce’ got included, we get quite a few beautiful tortoiseshell butterflies in our garden, that Nala is infatuated by (when I say ‘infatuated’, what I really mean is, she tries to eat them). Anyway, she was chasing one in the garden on that day I did this painting, hence why one was put in - because I felt like it!

Why the name ‘Bruce’? We liked the name Bruce for a dog, however, the dog that picked us (yes, we did not pick her, she launched herself on me the day we went to meet a litter and that was it), was female, so we weren’t going to call her Bruce. My husband then jokingly said that if we had a son, he was going to be called Bruce. I had my son last year and I can confirm that we did not call him Bruce. So, something had to be called ‘Bruce’, and I decided this butterfly, probably even the whole damn painting is going to be called - BRUCE.

I’ve been feeling absolutely exhausted recently. Part of that is due to having a 1 year old who has been difficult with sleep recently, constantly catching bugs from his nursery, suffering with Endometriosis flares and putting too much pressure on myself to work on my art and job search following my redundancy. 😮‍💨

I think I’ve burnt myself out and am now setting more achievable goals with my art and the job hunt. I’m also focusing on trying to chill out so I have more mental capacity for those who matter most to me. This has included me taking weekly solo trips to the sea (where I feel most chill). 🌊

I thought I could do two before Jacob got back from nursery… I didn’t even finish one 🙈

I don’t know if I will end up finishing the other one - my toxic artist trait is that if I start one of these paintings, I must finish it in one sitting, I can’t come back to it. If I have to come back to it, I lose the flow and lose interest and have to start a completely new peice.

I think it shows that these peices are about how I feel and my mood on the day and time I paint them. 🌺

BIG NEWS! I sold my first floral original! I’m so over the moon 🥹🌸

I was afraid no one would like these and they were just fun for me to do, but this has just completely proven me wrong.

Time to turn off the negative thoughts and the self doubt. Time to get confidently creating 🥳
