Happy Handicrafts Day !
A friend pointed out these fabulous samples posted on the Derbyshire Records Site.
Its only recently that we have become aware that the Strutts produced more than cotton. Check out the Merino ! Im loving some of the names. A real reflection of past times.
Happy crafting !

On Sunday 31st May Belper will be celebrating with the Summer Food Fayre...but of course not all the shops are food related. So whilst your browsing the stalls pop into our local independent stores. Madhandmade Designs are are a great shop for yarns, crafts and gifts. The owners live in and promote Belper and its heritage.
Ill be there on Sunday with my own design waterwheels, cut by 45 degrees.
These are being woven to be included in Belper Woollen Woods 250 event 18th to 31st July. Please feel free to pop in to add to the weaving started at Belper North Mill family day. A true Belper community exhibit.
See Waterwheel examples in comment.

The carder is having a well earned rest this week after a busy Buxton Wool Gathering last weekend. Thankyou to all the visitors and staff that made it an enjoyable event in a beautiful, naturally lit venue.

Looking forwards to our meeting on Thursday 7th May 1pm until 3pm xx
Im taking an enforced break from Belper 250 Woollen Woods to work on some weaving preparation for Belper North Mill volunteers and their family day next Sunday 10th May, celebrating National Mills weekend. Weaving on a Waterwheel will be one theme. I'd designed the water wheel looms pre Covid for a project at Cromford Mills which sadly couldn't go ahead because of the pandemic. There will be lots of craft activities for adults and children in Belper's North Mill, along with games and much more. All very welcome with no charge thanks to various sponsors and supporters. Check out the Belper North Mill page for more details.

I think Thursday will be a tree planning and flame day for me ! And then practising my cotton spinning for Sunday...and some story telling !

See you Thursday for a cuppa and cake !

A catch up and clean up time after a busy weekend . Before I blitz the kitchen Ive bleached and rinsed a crate of bobbins spoiled in past floods. They are soaked outside and then scrubbed. Left in the fresh air for a week or so to dry out and let UV cleanse them . Ive had them in a bleach solution and rinsed this morning...now back in the fresh air to dry off.
Tomorrow is World Heritage day . I'll be attending the Belper North Mill book launch in Strutt House, thanks to Edwin's Auctioneers....and sampling the beers created by Crich Brewery for Belper250.

A very chilled evening with Belper WI and Jedediah Strutt this week chatting about Belper250 and Belper Woollen Woods . I've finished creating candles from the odd socks bag and some more sorting out for in to Wool textile show in a few weeks. I even managed lunch with Heather to discuss the coming months fluffiness. Looking forwards to seeing Heather's lambs.

Stitching completed ! Using silk floss on the face was a challenge !!!!! This was my second attempt. Almost true to Tanya Bentham's design....a little artistic liscence used. I've learned quite alot from undertaking this personal challenge. It helped me through feeling quite poorly and some stress whilst planning Belper 250 Woollen Woods. Now to tidy away and start sorting out for the first Wool Fair in April. Spring into Wool at Leeds Grammar School in April.
