Are you ready to rock?🤘😁
Original bentwood rocking chair frame, seat and back woven with cane and leather lace.

Each frame I use is an original piece which I restore where needed before weaving. I use a unique combination of materials and design the weave pattern to complement the frame. These frames were designed to be re-caned as and when needed. This is aligned with my support for sustainability and environmental issues.

A visit to the Svenskt Tenn showroom in Stockholm, most upholsterers I know love these exuberant fabrics designed by Joseph Frank, I have used some myself over the years! The showroom didn’t disappoint and everything was there to buy off the roll, an absolute joy 🤩

An absolute treat to visit the Design Museum in Copenhagen, so many favourite chairs to see, some I’ve been lucky enough to work on myself! Lots to learn to of course, I love the pile of JH 501s In the documentary clip……
I was also very excited to find myself in a book in the bookshop!! 😁

Have just visited the SAS Radisson in Copenhagen, the original “Design Hotel”, Arne Jacobsen designed both the Swan and Egg chairs for this hotel along with just about everything else right down to the cutlery! Built in 1960 as a “total work of art” and a modernist masterpiece where form always follows function. All I can say is it’s sublime, the lobby, the original room and that floating staircase 👀, I was also very lucky to spend a bit of time in the Panoramic Suite too. A big wow from me😁

A trial weaving this little rush stool, using the envelope pattern but in blocks of 4, it’s come out chunky and quite jazzy! 😁 Woven with reel rush.

Sweet original Thonet Childs chair woven with cane and Sasawashi bamboo twine sourced in Kyoto, Japan. Love this lacy pattern.

A looong rush stool, woven with beautiful hand twisted wild rushes which I harvested last year. They are now mellowing to soft greens and golds! 🌾🌾🌾

There’s a lot going on with this chair, at least 2 layers of upholstery on top of the original, and what about those crossed staples, is there a reason for that or just for fun!!? Anyway it’s fully stripped now, a lovely solid frame which deserves the full works, plus the buried original pads are in good enough nic to re-use…..

I absolutely love weaving seats with rush 🌾 so it was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to make a looped rush cordage bag .uk A magical day in the woods, thank you Ruby for expanding my knowledge of this versatile material! Can’t wait to start my next one 😊
