Today, September 10th, marks World Su***de Prevention Day. Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by su***de and 1 in 4 of us has had suicidal thoughts. A Samaritans survey found 14% said their suicidal thoughts had been interrupted by a stranger or someone they didn’t know.
I came across the Peyton Heart Project, who are on a mission of kindness, inspiring people to leave hearts with PHP tags in public places for people to find. They hope the hearts cause people to stop for a moment and reflect on a life lost to su***de, on bullying and on the fact that everyone’s life matters. I’ve crocheted up a bunch to scatter and post to friends to do the same. 🧡
Changing the narrative on su***de requires systemic change. It’s about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. ***dePreventionDay ***depreventionday crochet
