Taking a break from doing glass today to make a hat. The last haircut I got was soooooo damn awful it bugs me just to look at it. Going to be awhile before it grows out so I’m making an everyday hat.

I didn’t have any leather I liked in the correct thickness I needed so I got a bit creative. I knew if I used this leather on the leather side it would end up looking like a helmet so I’ve chosen to use the opposite side of the hide and go for a suede look. The suede side is quite a different shade for both colours so overall it ended up being something I actually liked.

The first photo shows the nice suede side. The second photo shows the leather side which I think makes it look like a helmet.

I also want the stitching to have a more refined finished look so the stitching will eventually all be the decorative stitching shown in the third photo.

The last step will be to add the headband and brim which of course will be in a thicker and therefore stiffer leather.

OMG now I totally screwed up. Spent the whole day with my heavy duty apron on soldering and patinaing stained glass without any issues. But look what I just did to my favourite tunic the minute I take my apron off. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

So damn stupid too. The patina pot had a tiny bit of patina left in it so I soaked it up with a paper towel. Not wanting to throw it in the trash because it’s a chemical I figured I’d safely burn the paper towel. But like an idiot I wrapped it in another piece of old newspaper and then for some unfathomable reason twisted it tight which of course squeezed the wet paper towel spurting patina all down the front of my favourite tunic.

So annoyed with myself. And I know better!

And no this stain can never be removed. In fact it will eat through the fabric here shortly. 😭.

This is what happens when you do stuff out of order. Normally I’d pick up the paper towel and tuck it inside my nitrile gloves as I remove them and then I’d remove my apron. No idea why I did it all in the reverse order this time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Guess it’s a shopping trip now to buy more fabric and make another favourite tunic.

Laundry is all done and has a few little surprises.

A purple dragonfly pendant on the orange dress with decorative neckline.

Little bobble buttons on the jean shorts.

Two surprises on the towel. A raindrop on the bottom left of the towel and a ladybird has landed atop the towel for a brief rest.

Lastly a pair of socks.

Finishing touches. Can’t have a spider web without the spider
