Renovation Diary – Week 2 🔨😂

I left my husband and his best mate in charge of the shop for one morning…

I came back to… well, no walls… or ceiling, for that matter. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Their defence?

“It was rotten!”

Which, to be fair… is true. I just didn’t expect them to be quite so enthusiastic! 🤣

Don’t worry though—we’re carefully removing only the rotten materials to uncover and preserve as much of the original building as possible. Every layer we peel back seems to reveal another little piece of its history. 🖤

Now I’m about to leave them unsupervised for TWO WEEKS while I go and visit family… 😳

If you spot two men proudly uncovering more of the building’s history, feel free to keep me posted! I’m equal parts excited and nervous about what hidden gems—or surprises—I might come home to.

I have a feeling I’m either coming home to a shop that’s one big step closer to looking beautiful… or to two men proudly pointing at yet another rotten wall they “had no choice” but to remove. 😂

Renovation Diary – Day 1(ish) 📖🔨

… straight on the attack with this 100+ year old building.

First surprise? Beautiful original timber cladding hidden behind a wall. Result: 😍 That’s a keeper!

Then came surprise number two…

After peeling back two layers of plastic, we found a wall that turned to dust if you looked at it too hard, timber with the structural integrity of a soggy Weetabix, and a smell that could’ve qualified as a biological weapon. 🤢😂

The joys of old buildings! Every wall is a mystery box. At this rate, I’m either finding Narnia… or a never-ending repair bill. 🫣

Well… after what felt like 847 years of paperwork, phone calls, waiting, more waiting, and wondering if it was ever actually going to happen…

I finally got the shop! 🖤🎉

The keys are in my hands, Cruden Bay Candle Boutique officially has a home, and I don’t think the relief has quite sunk in yet.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me, checked in on me, and listened to me talk about this shop for what probably felt like forever. Your encouragement has kept me going.

Now the glamorous part begins… spending the summer covered in dust, discovering what 100-year-old buildings have been hiding, and questioning every DIY decision I’ve ever made! 😂

I can’t wait to share the renovation journey with you all and, before too long, welcome you through the doors.
