Thread art, also known as thread painting, needle painting and free motion embroidery, is a technique for creating stitches with a sewing machine that resemble paint strokes.

I've just reached 5K followers! Thank you so, so much πŸ™πŸ€—πŸŽ‰. I absolutely love doing what I do and sharing it. As I keep saying, it's how we all learn. I always try and answer everyone's questions, but I am no expert, so please let us all continue to learn together. Thank you to all those who answer my questions. If I miss anyone's comments, please give me a nudge πŸ₯°πŸ˜. I am not great with tec 🀣

Mother and babies are doing well. I don't see much of my hubby this time of year. Lambing for the next couple of weeks, he is out before I get up. I love seeing the lambs. There is a real feel of spring in the air 🩷 πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

This is the final reel on this piece. I'm now finishing the bluebells in the foreground. On the first part of this reel, you can see I am using a longer stitch. I have green thread on the top and purple on the bottom. I am moving quite vigorously up and down to get the longest stems. This means a prominent colour is green with little flecks of purple flower heads showing through. When I move onto the larger flowers at the front, I changed my thread to purple top and bottom. I have then changed to pale pink for the other flowers. A lot has to do with how you move your hoop and the tension. I hope this makes sense. It is now framed and will be going off to the exhibition at Grasmere at the beginning of April ❀️

Good morning. It's a beautiful spring day here in Cumbria. My husband is out lambing all day so I have the house to myself. Just wanted to share an update on the bluebell woods. I am adding some texture and little vines to the tree trunk by adjusting my tension and using a tiny zigzag.

I am starting to add some of the little trees. I am only picking up the trees in the background. I don't always get this right, but basically, I am trying to do this in order. The big tree in the foreground will be left until after I have done the foliage and bluebells coming from behind it.

Morning. I am having a lovely day in Eden Valley Artistic Network (Evan gallery, Penrith). Pop in and say hello if you are in the area. I thought I would add another little update reel. Firstly, I'm adding some coloured branches, and then I change to a more prominent green for some leaves. Don't be tempted to form leaf shapes. When you look at a wood, you see tones of green, not shapes, unless you are close up. You can see I am pausing ever so slightly to create denser patches.

Oliver said this piece is called "Blinds and the Sea." He was experimenting with masking tape and paint. He loves his straight lines.

I have my little helper back. Painting and craft weekend. It just melts my heart when they say, "Nanny, can we play with your craft stuff?" ❀️

So now we start the exciting and scary bit: putting some threads down. Take time to study your picture. Look for the detail furthest away (background)β€”those little twigs you can hardly see, the undefined leaves. I like to use a small zigzag stitch as well as a straight stitch. Don't fill in too heavily. You can stitch over the foreground trees as these will be covered later and you want the twiggy branches to look as if they are behind the trees and not stopping just before. (Hope that makes sense.) Be brave. This part feels like you have just scribbled over your beautiful painting.
