Coming Soon: Winter Gathering

As winter is fast approaching, we're making plans to bring together our final exhibition of 2026, celebrating the breadth and variety of contemporary work represented by the gallery. Running through to early January 2027, Winter Gathering will be our main exhibition over the Christmas period, with plenty of inspiration for Christmas gift ideas and art lovers alike.

Featuring local Dumfries & Galloway artists alongside those from further afield, the exhibition includes Alan Cameron, Deb Wing, Elizabeth Gilbey, Ewan McClure, Fiona Millar, Garry Harper, Heather Davies RSW, Ian Millen, James Russell Cowper, Johann Booyens, John McClenaghen, Joshua Miles ARSMA, Julie Hollis, June Bell, Kevan McGinty, Minette Bell MacDonald, Morag Archer, Richard Foster, Richard IPaint and William H Jones.

We’ll also be introducing new collections of ceramics, sculpture and jewellery, with work by Brian Holland, Carolyn Tripp, Heather Armstrong, Paddy Hartley, Sarah Lawson, Hannah Lane, Shirley Vauvelle, Vicky Swift, Zoe Stainton, Anna Roebuck and Katrina Croft Morrison.

Please join us for the Preview on Saturday 7 November, 11am–5pm.
The exhibition will run through to January 2027.

Birdwatchers were in for an incredible surprise on 8 October when a rare Scops Owl was discovered at Deerness, on Orkney’s Mainland 🦉

The tiny owl is an exceptionally unusual visitor to Britain, making this a very special sighting for local birdwatchers 👏🏻

Scops owls are normally found breeding across parts of southern Europe and western Asia. They’re masters of camouflage with greyish brown feathers that help them blend into their surroundings, making them incredibly difficult to spot 🔍

Despite their small size, these owls have distinctive little ear tufts and are primarily active at night, feeding on insects and other small creatures 🐛

What’s even more cool, this is reportedly only the ninth recorded sighting of a Scops Owl across the Orkney archipelago, making it a particularly exciting discovery
