I’ve been experimenting… 🎨

One of the things I love about being an artist is that you don’t always have to stay in one style.

My badger was all about realism — getting the anatomy, fur, light and atmosphere just right. 🦡

Then I decided to completely change direction and have some fun with this little hedgehog! 🦔💕

Looser marks, watercolour washes, fine liner and a much more whimsical, almost storybook feel.

Two animals… two completely different approaches.

And I’m really enjoying discovering what happens when I step outside my usual style.

Which do you prefer — realistic wildlife or cute and whimsical? ❤️

I think I might have to experiment a little more… 🎨✨

What a great turnout today, despite the weather!!!! 🌧️🎨 And there’s still another day to go!

It was lovely chatting with so many art lovers and seeing everyone enjoying the exhibition. ❤️

And of course, I had to try the courgette and lime cake… and it did not disappoint!!! 😋 I’m already lining up the carrot cake for tomorrow! 😂

What a lovely way to spend a weekend — art, cake, tea and good company! 🎨🍰☕️

🦡✨ WILD & FREE — A BADGER IN THE GOLDEN LIGHT ✨🦡

There’s something incredibly special about capturing a wild animal in its natural world — not just the way it looks, but the character, strength and spirit that makes it uniquely itself.

This little badger has been a real labour of love. 💚

Created in pastel on A4, I wanted to capture that magical moment when the evening light filters through the woodland, catching every strand of fur and illuminating the grass beneath his feet.

Layer upon layer of pastel, tiny individual hairs, deep shadows, soft golden light and those little details around his eyes and whiskers… hours of work went into bringing him to life.

And I think this is what I love most about wildlife art — you start with a blank piece of paper, and slowly, stroke by stroke, a personality begins to emerge. 🥰

I’m so pleased with how this one has turned out. It feels like he could simply step out of the picture and disappear back into the countryside. 🌿

🦊 Finished — “The Fox” 🦊

I’m calling this one finished! ❤️

A pastel wildlife portrait I’ve absolutely loved working on. I wanted to capture that beautiful, watchful expression of a fox, with all those gorgeous warm copper, russet and golden tones against a soft, atmospheric woodland background.

I’ve spent time building up the layers of fur, particularly around the face and that wonderfully fluffy chest — and I’m really pleased with how it’s come together. Whqt do you think??
