Spring interiors: what’s shifting.

Moving away from cool, flat spaces and towards something warmer, more layered and more personal.

Less perfection.
More character.

A little introduction for those of you who are new here…

Why I became an interior designer.

I’ve always been drawn to architecture and the way spaces shape how we live.

Before retraining, I worked as a Producer and Director on Property Ladder. Watching people transform houses sparked something. It made me see the real value of a home that’s not only beautiful, but designed to function around the people living in it.

Around the same time, my eldest was about to start nursery. I wanted a career that would allow me to build something meaningful, while also being present for my family.

So I completed an intensive Diploma in Interior Design, and gradually, project by project, built my studio.

Creating homes that are thoughtful, practical and genuinely work for the people who live in them is still what drives me.

Thank you for following my journey. I’m so glad you’re here.

Love,

How to use print well.

Print should add depth, not distraction.

When pattern feels overwhelming, it’s rarely the print itself. It’s usually one of three things: scale, placement or what’s sitting next to it.

A few principles I use in every scheme:

1. Contain it.
Framing a bold wallpaper within panelling, joinery or architectural lines gives it structure and purpose.

2. Let one surface lead.
If the wall is expressive, keep surrounding materials grounded. Natural timber, plaster, stone or simple upholstery will allow it to breathe.

3. Vary the scale.
Large-scale pattern on walls works beautifully when paired with smaller or textural patterns in cushions and fabrics.

4. Balance pattern with texture.
Not everything needs a motif. Velvet, linen, brick, timber, these create visual interest without competing.

5. Edit.
Negative space is what makes print feel confident rather than crowded.

Used thoughtfully, print brings personality and a sense of story to a space. It should feel considered, not decorative.

These are just a few of the living rooms I’ve had the pleasure of designing - each very different in character, but all rooted in the same thoughtful, bespoke approach.

I focus on how you want your home to feel, shaping the layout, materials and details into a space that’s considered and personal.

Although I’m Kent-based, my processes, communication and project management allow me to work just as effectively with clients further afield.

If it feels like the right fit, location is never an issue.

Rounding off the week with a little celebration; Ruby Red Interiors has been awarded Best of Houzz 2026 for Service - woohoo! This award is particularly touching as it’s directly related to my clients and the positive experience they have had while working with me. So, thank you dear clients, for choosing Ruby Red in the first instance and for your kind words of praise. It gives me such a warm feeling to know that I’ve helped improve your life in my small way by designing spaces that both reflect your personality and function the way you want and need them to.

Thanks also to the Houzz Pro team for the award and for the fabulous design community you’ve cultivated.

Here’s to the year ahead and the prospect of helping other clients with their design journey!

Rather than following predictions, I look at the wider shifts shaping how people want to live in their homes.

Design that prioritises warmth, comfort and personal connection tends to endure far longer than any trend, and feels all the richer for it.

I believe the best interiors evolve with you.
What makes a home feel timeless to you?

This Kent coast holiday apartment remains one of my favourite projects.

The brief was calm, modern and low-maintenance, creating a space that feels like a true retreat from city life.

Rather than over-designing, the focus was on proportion, flow and restraint. Subtle layout adjustments opened the apartment up, allowing space for a dedicated dining area and improving the connection between the kitchen and living space.

Bespoke elements play a key role throughout. A custom media wall integrates storage, display and an electric fire, finished in a softly textured, sea-inspired wallpaper that adds depth without overwhelming the room.

In the bedroom, full-width joinery and mirrored surfaces enhance light and create a relaxed, hotel-like atmosphere.

The result is a light, considered retreat, thoughtfully designed and carefully delivered.

Time-short but dreaming of a beautiful home in 2026?
You’re not alone, and you don’t need hours of spare time to make it happen.

Most of my clients come to me saying:
“I want to sort the house out… I just don’t have the headspace.”

Here’s the good news:
You don’t need more time, you just need a solid plan and someone to handle the details.

In 2026 I’m helping even more busy clients who want:
Clear direction
Confident decisions
Less overwhelm
A home that finally feels right

If “sort the house out” is on your list for the new year, let’s get it moving calmly, creatively and without eating into your limited time.

Now booking January & February design slots.
If you’d like your project to have a head start before the year really kicks in, just send me a message.

So many clients come to me saying, “I have no style.”
But here’s what I’ve learned:
You do, you just haven’t uncovered it yet.

Your story, your personality, and the way you want your home to feel are the foundations of great design.
Once we tap into that, everything starts to click… and that’s when the “look at me, I’m fabulous” factor appears. ✨
