There’s something I absolutely LOVE about this stage of a build 🤎

The bit where everything is still a little rough around the edges. The walls are being prepped, the fittings are going in, there’s dust everywhere and you can still see all the layers of work that have gone into creating the space.

It’s the moment when you can finally start to see it.

Before the beautiful finishes, furniture and styling come in, there’s this wonderful in-between stage where the bones of a room really come alive. Honestly, I think I love this part just as much as the finished room.

Interiors aren’t about making everything perfect. It’s about creating spaces with character, atmosphere and a sense of who lives there.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared an update from our home renovation!

We’ve been back in the house for almost four months now, and it’s so easy to forget just how much we actually did. Looking back through the photos has made me SO excited to revisit the journey.

I’ll be sharing much more of it over the coming weeks, but first… here’s a little progress update on our now snug lounge.

We wanted to keep our main living space completely free from a TV and other devices. Instead, we kept our original lounge as a separate space for watching films, curling up with a book, catching up on some computer work, or simply having some quiet downtime.

It’s become such a lovely little retreat space. Cosy, relaxed and deliberately separate from the main living space.

Replacing the old white PVC French doors (see last slide) has made such a difference too. The new aluminium framed glass doors brings in so much more light and, more importantly, frame a lovely view out to the garden beyond 🌿

For the colour scheme, I wanted something warm and cocooning. I used Java on the walls and skirting, with Rocky Desert on the ceiling and cornice both from . I love how the deeper ceiling colour adds another layer to the room and makes the space feel even cosier.

More renovation updates coming very soon 🤎

There's something so satisfying about decoupage ✨

I love taking a piece of furniture I've found in a local charity shop and giving it a completely new story.

Creating a home you love doesn't have to mean spending a fortune. A second-hand piece, a tin of and some beautiful napkin paper can completely transform something ordinary into a piece full of character and something that's uniquely yours.

That's what I love about painting furniture… it's accessible to everyone. You don't need to be an artist or have loads of experience. You can go all out and cover a whole piece, or start small with a drawer, the inside of a cabinet or even a little table.

It's about experimenting, having fun and making your home feel more you, without buying everything new.

These slow, creative projects are my favourite things to do 🤍

Some projects never leave you.

This home in Green Point, Cape Town, is one of them.

During my time as an Interior Stylis at Weylandts, I had the privilege of working on this beautiful project, creating a home that feels calm, layered and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Living in South Africa for ten years shaped the way I see interiors. It taught me to embrace natural materials, celebrate craftsmanship and create spaces with warmth, texture and soul. Those influences remain at the heart of everything I do today through Salvage + Spruce.

Looking back at this project, I'm reminded that great design isn't about filling a room. It's about creating an atmosphere. One that makes you exhale, slow down and truly feel at home.

Have you ever visited Cape Town? It's a place that continues to inspire me, both personally and creatively. 🇿🇦

✨ From a £5 find to a pair of characterful footstools ✨

I spotted these little footstools while collecting an armoire for a client. I loved their shape and proportions, but the orange pine was definitely doing it for me!

Making the most of a sunny afternoon in the garden, I decided to give them a new lease of life using the Frottage paint technique. By layering paint and using textured paper to create a subtle, weathered grain effect, the finish beautifully mimics aged wood and adds depth, texture and character.

This is why I love upcycling. You don't need a huge budget to create something special. With a little imagination, the right techniques and a tin of paint, even the most overlooked pieces can become the stars of a room.

The Frottage paint technique is inspired by the traditional French art method frotter, meaning "to rub". This decorative paint technique recreates that beautifully organic texture using Chalk Paint® and paper, producing a rich, layered finish that's perfect for furniture and interiors.

Sustainability and thoughtful design sit at the heart of everything I do at Salvage + Spruce. Little projects like these are a reminder that some of the best pieces are simply waiting to be rediscovered.

What will you be inspired to upcycle over the summer holidays? ✨

When two worlds you love come together... 🤍✨

Natural textures, handcrafted treasures, beautiful rugs, and the transformative power of colour.

I've always believed that the most interesting interiors are layered over time. They tell stories through texture, craftsmanship and pieces that feel collected rather than bought all at once.

That's why bringing Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® to Smouk Interiors felt like such a natural fit.

Imagine pairing a vibrant Moroccan rug with a forgotten chest of drawers you've painted yourself. Or giving an old side table a new lease of life that sits perfectly amongst handwoven baskets, vintage finds and beautiful textiles.

It's not about buying new.
It's about seeing the potential in what you already have.

I'm here to help you choose colours, build confidence and show you just how easy it is to transform furniture into something uniquely yours.

Here's to colourful homes, creative weekends and interiors full of soul 💚
