Back at The Barras this weekend with a few more new plants out of the greenhouse. Particularly proud of this Croton Sunny Star, and the amazing Peace Lily plants the same as we did 2 years ago. Got some great feedback on those babies last time.

It’s our 3rd Birthday! (Tomorrow)

Three years ago seeds and saplings started as a little idea in our living room.

Since then we’ve propagated loads of plants (mainly Spiderrettes) poured so many candles, packed orders and found a community at the barras.

Thank you for continuing to show support to our wee business.

Shop clean kinda day. Because we sell lots of plants, and we’re semi outdoors we get lots of dirt everywhere so we felt it needed a good clean. So we took everything out and wipe and mop the space head to toe

💜 This Pride Market, we’re raising money for Scottish Trans.

Why Scottish Trans?

Scottish Trans works to improve equality, rights, and inclusion for trans and non-binary people across Scotland. They provide information, advocacy, community support, and campaign for a Scotland where everyone can live safely and authentically.

As a small business, we know we’re not experts on every lived experience. Neither of us are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but we do believe that communities are stronger when we look out for one another. And showing up for people is what matters.

As disabled people, we also recognise that many barriers don’t exist in isolation. Specifically the intersectionality and experiences of disabled trans and non-binary people, and the additional challenges that can come from belonging to more than one marginalised community. We think these are important conversations to have.

Pride has always been about community, solidarity, and standing up for one another

Communities grow best when we support each other. 🌿

So for this year’s Barras Pride Market, we’ll be donating a portion of our sales to support the work Scottish Trans does across Scotland. 💜

Spider plants

Carrying on with one of our favourite beginner-friendly, low-maintenance plants… our originator. 💚

Spider plants are brilliant if you’re just starting your plant journey. They’re happy in most bright rooms and are pretty good at forgiving the occasional missed watering (we’ve done it many times).

Another one that’s great for pet owners too, as they’re non-toxic to cats and dogs. Although, as we’ve discovered recently, that doesn’t stop some cats from treating them like a chew toy.

If you look after them well, a spider plant could be with you for 20+ years, good they are easy going.

Those long stems eventually produce baby spider plants (known as “spiderettes”), which can be snipped off and grown into brand new plants 👀 watch you don’t start a large collection like us.

They love bright, indirect light, but they’re one of the few houseplants that will tolerate less-than-perfect conditions without throwing a dramatic tantrum. We have our in many different light conditions all doing great, the ones that get more light tend to have more defined strips though. :

Basically Spider plants are the golden retrievers of the houseplant world. Friendly, easy-going, safe around pets, and before you know it they’ve somehow produced about 47 children.

What a good beginner plant? This is the one! Nice and compact, will purify the air.
Can tolerate a shady spot in your house just don’t put her in direct sun and she’ll be fine.

If your a pet owner be careful with this one though keep out of reach on a shelf.

A teaser of what is coming for Barras Market Pride Market on Thursday 25th of June. We will have our usual goodies and it will all be for a good cause. This year we are donating 10% of all proceeds to Scottish Trans, for simple reason that Trans people are under attack and we need to support organisations fighting the good fight.

Market is from 5pm - 10m
It should be a good night with all your favourite traders, live performers and legendary food.

We are under the Barrowland Ballroom sign, come say hi, pick up a plant or a candle or even just some advice.

You can also click & collect for the night to make sure you get exactly what you want, we’ll have it all wrapped up and ready to go.
