October continues at a pace with yet more stock coming into Tinkers Barns and made good items coming out of the workshops at NR34 7LB. Always welcome visitors on Weds 10-4pm and Sat 10-2pm where you can view and check everything before you buy.
Most of our stock is under cover so don’t let the rain put you off and coffee is alway free.

🌿 Winter Gardens restoration – funding update

Councillors are being asked to consider a proposal to seek £13.5m of additional funding to complete the planned restoration of Great Yarmouth’s iconic Winter Gardens.

The Grade II* listed Victorian glasshouse has been closed since 2008 and is on the Heritage at Risk Register.

💷 £21.2m has already been secured, but rising construction costs and the complexity of restoring the building mean the estimated cost has increased to £34.7m.

If approved, additional funding would be sought from:

• The National Lottery Heritage Fund – £4.6m
• Historic England – £1m
• Arts Council England – £2.5m
• Great Yarmouth Borough Council – £2.9m
• Charitable fundraising

The ambition is to restore the Winter Gardens and return it to public use as a year-round visitor and community destination, incorporating horticulture, heritage, community activities and food and drink.

The business case estimates the restored venue could attract more than 150,000 visits a year and generate around £2.6m in additional annual visitor spending in the borough.

The proposals will be considered by Full Council on Thursday 22 October.

The Winter Gardens is the UK’s last surviving seafront glasshouse, making its restoration an important opportunity to protect one of Great Yarmouth’s most significant historic landmarks for future generations. 🌿
