I’ve had a lovely day here sitting in the garden surrounded by my birdbaths and wallpieces, talking to people.
I’m telling visitors that the brooch and pendant cards I’m making is a way of using the leftover scraps of clay.
It’s true!
We are open this Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday on the trail .

The idea for ‘Precious Cargo’ has been sitting in my sketchbook for quite a while, waiting for the right moment to be made. I’ve always loved the tenacity of the dung beetle transforming something most of us would find unpleasant into a perfect sphere sometimes 10 -30 times their size that becomes both life source and home for its young.

The beetle itself was a real challenge to make a mix of hand-formed and raised pewter which where then etched and sections like the head and legs carved in wax and cast.

The concrete sphere is coloured and mixed with straw, with areas gilded in gold leaf to give a subtle sense of something precious being protected and carried. 🪲

In preparation for this year’s Artists Open Houses I spent yesterday visiting the fabulous to select some of her sculptures to exhibit in May. Such a fun day chatting and playing with clay with a quick visit to Ironbridge before the long journey back to Hove.

Low hum of gardeneres chat in the distance
Limited phone signal
Home made cakes and tea room

And.... space to wonder around. By yourself ( or with friends)

And you can buy the plants !!! 🪴

This feels like pure heaven.
