This week for the Huddersfield Thompsons! We can't go in our home currently because it has been discovered we have an asbestos board kitchen ceiling that has had multiple holes cut into it during our kitchen refurbishment. We didn't find this out until 4 days of living in it with our daughter and clearing away the dust etc. Absolutely devastating to say the least in terms of the risk to her, and our health.
We have had to take down our greenhouse and clear our garden so there is space for a decontamination unit next week when the asbestos removal gets underway. In the meantime we are staying in a VERY expensive but comfortable Airbnb.
In the process of clearing our garden I had to harvest all our Rhubarb so have made a delicious crumble. And Rhubarb cake to closely follow. We have a huge sack of potatoes from our potato plants to fill our tummies too. Twyla's grandad harvested Blackberries from the field behind our 'Holiday house' and we also had a blackberry cake this week which Twyla is loving.
So, it's a pretty stressful time to say the least! I don't think I will ever move to a house that needs refurbishment again! All our curtains, carpets and sofa etc have to be disposed of because of the dust. Any electrical items with vents. It's a lot. It is going to take time to feel safe and comfortable in our home again. I also had to decline my next surgery date as we won't be back home in time.
House insurance doesn't cover Asbestos removal or damage caused... Ouch.
But we have beautiful views, we have home-grown, home-made food and we still have each other so trying to focus on all the good things. I have been stitching to help me find some calm. If you see me and want to give me a hug, that would feel perfect.
