Project Overview
Oakfield Landscaping London has completed Phase 1 of this garden transformation, turning an overgrown, neglected outdoor space into a clean, structured garden ready for the next stage of development.
The existing garden was heavily overgrown, with weeds, established vegetation and an ageing paved pathway dominating the space. Our objective was to reclaim the garden, establish a solid foundation for the new design and introduce a timeless natural stone patio that would provide the perfect starting point for a more refined outdoor environment.
The chosen material was Antique Tandur Limestone, selected for its understated natural tones, traditional character and ability to complement the surrounding London brickwork.
Phase 1 | The Process
1. Clearance & Preparation
The first stage involved clearing the overgrown garden and removing unwanted vegetation, weeds and accumulated garden debris. This allowed us to expose the existing ground conditions, assess the space and establish the working area for the new layout.
2. Groundworks & Formation
With the garden cleared, we prepared the ground for the new patio installation. This involved establishing the required levels and preparing a suitable sub-base to support the paving, promote stability and provide the correct finished falls for surface water drainage.
Careful attention was given to the relationship between the patio, the existing raised beds and the surrounding retaining walls, ensuring the new paved area would sit naturally within the garden's existing structure.
3. Antique Tandur Limestone Installation
The central feature of Phase 1 was the installation of the Antique Tandur Limestone paving.
The natural stone introduces a warm, understated finish that contrasts beautifully with the traditional brick boundary walls. The large-format slabs were laid in a staggered pattern, creating a balanced appearance while helping the patio feel more spacious and contemporary.
Particular care was taken with the alignment, levels and spacing of the paving to establish a consistent finish and a strong foundation for the remaining landscaping works.
The result is a defined patio area that immediately improves the usability and appearance of the garden.
4. Defining the Garden's Layout
The new limestone patio establishes the principal hard-landscaping element of the garden. The existing raised beds and perimeter walls provide a natural framework for the planting scheme planned for the next phase.
By completing the paving first, we have created a clear separation between the entertaining area and the surrounding planting zones, allowing the remaining elements to be introduced without compromising the overall design.
Phase 1 | Finishing Point
The completion of the limestone installation marks an important milestone in the garden's transformation.
What was once an overgrown and underused space now has a defined patio, a cleaner layout and a timeless natural stone surface. The garden is beginning to take shape, with the hard landscaping providing the structure needed to bring the full design together.
However, this is only the beginning. The next phase will introduce the finishing details and planting that will soften the stonework, add colour and texture, and create a more inviting outdoor sanctuary.
Phase 2 | The Next Chapter
🌿 Patio Pointing
The limestone joints will be completed to create a neat, consistent finish and help bring the paved area together.
🪨 Limestone Chippings
Decorative limestone chippings will be introduced to the designated areas, complementing the natural stone patio while adding texture and definition.
🌹 Rose Planting
Roses will introduce height, seasonal colour and a softer, more romantic character to the garden.
💜 Lavender Planting
Lavender will bring fragrance, silver-green foliage and colour, helping to create a relaxed, Mediterranean-inspired feel.
🌾 Ornamental Grasses
Ornamental grasses will add movement, contrasting textures and year-round structure, balancing the solid lines of the limestone paving and brickwork.
Together, these elements will transform the newly structured garden into a more complete and harmonious outdoor space.
