I adore orchids. They appear strong and structural, yet are also so delicate and beautiful. And the number of varieties makes each unique….

However, I don’t think they like me much! It seems the more attention I pay them, the quicker they die, but I’m getting more savvy now 🤗

Symbolic for strength, elegance & beauty….. In Victorian England, gifting an orchid was a message of love or to tell a woman she was beautiful 🥰

Today is International Day of the orchid, so to celebrate, here’s a selection of the beautiful orchid sculptures I’ve been commissioned to create over the past few years. Which last forever! No neglect/over-caring issues 🫣

Each plant is made to order and hand painted, so can be created in a unique pot and petal colour of your choice, and also different sizes if you want more flower blooms, or a smaller height.

Order now via my website to guarantee you have yours by Christmas, and include a note letting me know what colours you would like.
If you want a different size, drop me an email at [email protected] & I can then give you more details.

Important September Announcements, in yet another vehicle-based ramble!
However, please bear with me, as there’s a lot of very important info I need to give!
If you get bored, I’ve summarised it on a slide at the end of the video.

So, due to my cancer coming back to bite me on the bum (well, kidney), I’ll be out of action for most of September as of tomorrow (Tuesday afternoon).

And remember, my work is still available in the & both in Keswick. And I’ll be showing at in December!

I’ll be back ASAP fellow glass geeks! 😘

More from day 1 at the International festival of glass!

We were incredibly privileged / lucky / geeky to be given access to a guided tour of the facilities here in St Helens as part of the …… The original pioneers in the manufacturing and development of architectural & industrial glass, & one of the biggest in the world.

It was amazing, mind-blowing and surreal to see the workings on the factory floor, see the staff at work and experience glass making on a huge industrial scale.
We learnt so much about the history, processes and future of sheet glass production here, and how they have spearheaded and changed the way we produce & view glass across the world……

However, you’ll need to take my word for it, as with security akin to how I imagine it is at Sellafield (for you Cumbrians out there), once those gates to Greengate Works slid open, phones & cameras were strictly prohibited! This is the first ‘public’ our guide could ever remember taking.

What I will say, is the site is humongous, the environment those guys work in is equally epic and brutal, and the glass the manufacture is breathtaking. Well worth the effort taken to walk that distance and all the flights of stairs! 🙄🫣

An experience I will never forget. Thank you so much for organising.

I really need to keep a better check on what materials I have in the workshop when I get started on a new commission and in the zone….. on a tight deadline, was determined to get this panel done over the weekend, and then ran out of the 5mm width lead that I needed!!! 😫

So when you’re in a pickle & on a deadline, who do you call? ….. that’s who!

Thanks so much guys. Great turnaround as per usual. As I placed the order Sunday evening, it was dispatched Monday lunchtime and with me Tuesday morning! 👏👏👏

Had hoped to have this one finished before heading off to the International Festival of Glass tomorrow, but it’ll have to wait now as my body was telling me to stop, even though my brain was on tunnel vision! Oh well, not too far off and then I can get on with building the sister window as we go@into the start of the open studios!

I can’t believe it was the last trellis workshop of the year, and I didn’t get any photos of the final pieces!!’ 😱🫣🤷‍♀️

4 very different, but equally stunning stained glass trellises were created last Friday, and i’m so excited to see how they look once they have had their final titivate to remove any rogue sealant and are in their respective gardens! A wonderful mix of designs, with striking geometric patterns combined with stunning deep textures and bold streaky glass, through to one with a cheeky puffin and sunbursts!

So that everyone gets to take home their beautiful work on the day, I silicone adhere each stained glass panel into its frame during the session, but it then needs 24hrs to dry. I then wrap them up in cardboard to keep them safe and in place, but don’t get to see the final piece in all its glory, which does make me feel sad 😢 however, I do know that a few might be heading to the Westmoreland show for the craft competition, so hopefully I’ll get to see them there!!! Good luck ladies…..

This workshop is defo going to be continued into 2027 though, so if you want to create something like this, get on my mailing list to be the first to know of the next date.

You can also buy these pieces of garden art from me via my online store at www.NorthLakesStainedGlass.co.uk choosing either one of my current designs, or why not have a bespoke design created for your outdoor space.

Well, I didn’t see this ever happening when I started working with stained glass! Every time I look on the drive, I have to kind of giggle.

Polar opposites, but equally adored, which in itself is hilarious - I’m either very internally confused, or have some sort of split personality 🤣
The mini wasn’t really the most practical community physio car, let alone glass delivery / collection vehicle!

And as for the carebear on the keyring….. what can I say? 🤷‍♀️ I’m an 80s baby!! (Hubby doesn’t approve 😉)
