Once upon a time, viking age reenactment mail armour was made from galvanised fencing wire rings, butted together. It was very heavy and not terribly robust, but was the best we could manage. These days, we use superbly crafted riveted ring mail which closely approximates the real thing.
Being a reenactor with a history of making mail and of mature years, I have accrued several mail shirts, five of which are the old now very obsolete style described above. So rather than just throw them away, I decided to make a 'chainmail rug' just for giggles.
20 ft long, 3 ft wide and somewhere in the region of 150lbs in weight..... I don't think they'll catch on.
