Would you have guessed these were flowers? 🌸

Pink, lilac and butter-yellow blocks for the premiere of The Minecraft Movie, built by hand and placed one by one across the lawn, under ivy-covered walls.

Nature doesn’t really do right angles but it turns out it can be persuaded.

When the real art is already on the walls, the flowers have a different job.

Designing for a gallery is about complementing what’s already in the room, not competing with it. We start with the walls: the damask, the paint colour, the light on the frames. The flowers follow from there. Rust dahlias against red, loose meadow stems against green, and one evening of nothing but white and green, because the paintings had already brought the colour.

We keep the arrangements low and open too, so the doorways stay framed and nobody has to peer round a centrepiece to see a Tintoretto.

Some of the best company at the table has been hanging on the walls for centuries.

September, and somehow busier than August 🍂

We built a meadow for the East of Eden premiere, brought grasses and heather to Barbour’s activation, grew a jungle under glass at the Sky Garden and pulled off one very big wedding at Benham Park, plus plenty of dinners, weddings and installs in between!

There were early trips to the market, autumn flowers finally taking over the bench and more fun with fruit and pumpkins than we’d like to admit (tis the season, after all).

And here are some of the team who bring it all together, sitting down for the first time in weeks. October, we’re ready (almost).

Autumn doesn’t have to mean rust, ochre and pumpkin spice.

As the season turns, we’re still reaching for colour in the MJV studio. Dahlias in fuchsia and tangerine, nerines, gloriosa lilies, crocosmia and cosmos, loosely gathered down a long table and lit by tapers in sage, coral and plum. 🌸🌿🪸

September, and the season can’t quite make up its mind. Neither can we.

Zinnias, cosmos and scabious still turning up like it’s July. Blush spray roses arriving half in bud and opening all week. Peach snapdragons holding on far longer than they’ve any right to, and the dahlias getting darker by the day.

Then rose hips, seed heads and the first copper leaves, and suddenly it’s autumn. Summer’s last word, autumn’s first. We’ll happily take both.

Grown in Britain wherever the season allows.

The making of vs. The result at Benham Park.

From buckets of stems and vans packed to the doors, to ladders, mechanics and hours spent building on site, before everything falls into place.

For this wedding, the transformation was all in the scale: abundant florals, layers of foliage and statement installations designed to feel completely at home within Benham Park.

The finished product might look effortless. The process rarely is.

A playful, dazzling celebration of spring colour at Kew Gardens - designed for wild romance!

Coral and blush roses, lilac, fizzy forget-me-nots and clouds of blossom framed the vows whilst meadow-like planting moved loosely along the aisle. Undone and a little bit wild, in the prettiest possible way!

What is the biggest floral challenge on large-scale installs?

For Anna, it’s the logistics - the unseen layers behind the beauty. Tight timelines, complex load-ins, and building on-site alongside multiple suppliers, all working in sync. It’s a constant balance of precision and pace.

For Tove, it’s about the rhythm of it all. Install windows can be incredibly short, often just a matter of hours to transform a space completely. Every step is timed, every movement considered — from conditioning to placement.

It’s not just about the flowers, but how they arrive, when they’re placed, and how a team moves together to make it happen.

A world of early mornings, late nights, and meticulous planning — all to create something that feels entirely effortless.

Hedsor House in high summer, a two hundred year old cedar with rolling hills grounding the picture perfect scene.

Everything here was white, green and left to move freely. Two urns lifted onto plinths so the ceremony frame sat above the chairs, rambling roses dancing up the painted staircase, and small vases down the tables for the candlelight to catch.

✨An office reception, transformed into a garden.

Moss laid across the marble, chairs bedded into a garden border, and delphiniums, hydrangeas, roses, muscari and helebores planted in sweeping drifts around the reception desk. Between the columns, a market stall with spiralling greenery as if it had grown there.

At this scale, an installation becomes an engineering challenge as much as a design one - weight, light, water, access and a service lift that was never built with a tree in mind.

Part one of the more surprising things we’ve been asked to create. There are stranger ones still to come, and at MJVD, we’ll always love a creative challenge.
