A vibrantly coloured late 18th century Irish chimneypiece inlaid in the manner of Pietro Bossi with carved mantel shelf circa 1790 with later additions, and what a beauty she is.

Relatively little is known of Pietro Bossi, although much inlay work of the late 18th Century is commonly known as ‘Bossi-work’. An Italian craftsman, Bossi worked in Dublin from 1785 to 1798 and used coloured marble inlay and also a coloured paste inlay, known as Scagliola, on a white marble ground. Bossi’s process was a closely guarded secret and was apparently carried out behind closed doors. He left Dublin in 1798 under a cloud of suspicion implicating him with the revolutionary movement.

The Chedworth is a chimneypiece of simple architectural form. It has inset panels of generous proportions that allow the material selected to be fully appreciated. In this case, we have used Derbyshire quarried Ball Eye Blue, one of the most striking materials from The British Materials Collection, together with English Portland stone mouldings to create a fireplace of outstanding beauty and originality that celebrates our beautiful native materials.

The Soane V is an elegant silhouette designed by one of England’s most original and influential architects, Sir John Soane. It is a timeless surround that works beautifully in this modern classic interior.

The Metamorphic Collection

Simplicity meets sophistication with The Manhattan Classic. Its clean, architectural form provides the perfect canvas to showcase the natural beauty of our stocked marble collection.

Featured here in Macedonian Volakas, a soft grey and white marble quarried on the wooded slopes of Mount Falkiri, above the ancient city of Drama in northern Greece. Each surround is entirely unique, with veining and translucence that cannot be replicated.

Bring one of the oldest and most admired natural materials into your home with a fire surround as individual as your design vision.
