I’m Hannah and I’ve had a love of Edwardian houses ever since I moved into mine back in 2017.

It needed a complete renovation, and the loving restoration of this house is what led me into a career in interior design.

Dear New Owner of an Edwardian semi, Congratulations. You have no idea what you’ve just taken on. Here’s what I wish someone had told me when I was you.

Everyone around you might think you’re mad for buying a place that needs so much work, but you can see the potential.

You know that beneath the dust and grime and years of bad decor decisions that there is soul here. Those deep skirting boards and picture rails will shine again. The fireplaces will be brought back to life, the floors will be sensitively restored and the front door will be painted a colour that highlights the tiled pathway leading up to it.

Keep the faith, it will be hard and expensive to turn this house into the vision in your mind, but it WILL be worth it.

You will end up with a home that seamlessly blends old and new and takes all the best bits of Edwardian architecture - the interesting windows, the large rooms, the high ceilings - and elevates them.

An extension might be needed to enlarge the kitchen and give you the connection with the garden that this house deserves. If you can push through the financial pain, do it. You won’t regret it.

Don’t listen to the doubters. This is a great idea and it will change your life.

And when you’re ready to make the vision in your head a reality, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Day 1 of 2 as an Interior Design Expert at the Ideal Home Show complete!

I met some lovely people, gave lots of advice, got an almost front row seat for Emeli Sandé's amazing performance and had some helpful chats with other interior designers.

Today I'm back again for more and can't wait! Come and say hi in the Design Studio if you're at the show today. There are a few walk-ins available if you get there early.
