The phrase we all hate to hear in our industry, but it doesn’t always have to be a negative!

There are often ways to VE within our existing design specification e.g., changing the finish of a product, changing the size, changing the type of dimming…the list goes on.

The important thing to remember is the collaboration with our clients and ensuring they get to keep as close as possible to their existing design, while also meeting the demands of the new budget.

Introducing two exciting new additions from our Belgian partners TEKNA ✨

Known for their timeless craftsmanship and innovative approach to decorative lighting, Tekna continue to evolve their collections with new designs that honour their heritage, while responding to contemporary project requirements in our ever-changing lighting world.

💡Birmingham (slides 1-6)

The latest addition to the iconic Nautic collection, Birmingham is an evolution of the popular Annet Wall Light.

Like Annet and many of Tekna’s fixtures, Birmingham is defined by its clean silhouette and balanced geometry, allowing it to integrate effortlessly across a variety of residential and hospitality environments.

💡Kembleford Drops (slides 7-12)

Joining the Kembleford family, the new Kembleford Drops brings a refined pendant variation to the collection.

Kembleford Drops offers a decorative solution that works beautifully across hotel lobby spaces or elegant stairwells with a vast floor to ceiling height.

Available in two sizes with a warm 2200K colour temperature, why not specify as a striking statement piece by clustering multiple larger pendants together, or for a more subtle approach, the smaller pendants can be used individually or in smaller compositions.

We can’t wait to see these being used in our projects.

To conclude our mini-series exploring the Jan Pauwels collection by our partners Quasar, today we’re taking a closer look at Cosmos Disc, part of the wider Cosmos series.

While the original Universe collection celebrated the individual light source through tiny E10 lamps, Cosmos series marked an evolution in Jan Pauwels’ design approach by using double sided LED printed circuit boards, with 2/3 of the light directed downwards and 1/3 upwards.

Cosmos Disc is often specified within our projects due to its unique sculptural form and versatility across a variety of environments.

Featured here is the Cosmos Disc in a Brass finish, installed aboard Saudi Arabia’s first cruise line AROYA | أرويـا as part of our project with .

The detail:

✨ Cosmos Disc | Brass Finish | 180cm diameter | 3000K

✨ A bespoke rigid ceiling fixation was required for this project to comply with maritime safety regulations and to withstand movement at sea. To achieve this, Quasar developed a custom 300mm circular ceiling canopy with six supporting 8mm diameter fixing rods, providing additional structural stability.

✨ Installed on Deck 7 within the dedicated watches & jewellery boutique, featuring a selection of luxury timepieces and fine jewellery.

We spend our days helping clients choose decorative lighting for their projects, but almost two years ago, we got to be the client ourselves.

When planning our wedding design details, we opted for soft pinks, blues and neutrals as the overall colour palette.

When it came to the lighting, we knew our favourite portable Trip would complement the scheme perfectly. We selected the Rose & Opal Glossy shades of Trip, alternating the finishes across the tables.

We think we answered our own brief perfectly (though we may be a little biased!) with Trip not overpowering the tablescape, but adding subtle elegance, through its warm glow, transitioning beautifully from day to night.

Trip still remains one of the most frequently specified portables for our projects and it’s easy to see why!

Following on from Friday, where we explained the difference between the E10 light source and LED printed circuit board used throughout the Jan Pauwels collection, let’s take a closer look at the Universe Series ✨

One of the earliest collections designed by Jan Pauwels for Quasar, Universe celebrates the individual light source, with dozens of tiny E10 lamps creating a constellation-like effect throughout the fixture.

In true Quasar fashion, Universe can be configured in many different shapes, sizes and variations.

Earlier this month, we visited our Italian partners, Aldo Bernardi at their headquarters in Treviso; a trip that is always special, no matter how many times we return. 🇮🇹💡

For 50 years, Aldo Bernardi has been creating timeless lighting pieces, with brass and ceramic remaining at the heart of their collections and craftsmanship.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to see some of their new collections, as well as their most iconic designs, including the classic lighting systems that many of our clients have loved to use in their projects over the years.

There is something incredibly inspiring about visiting HQ in person and experiencing the craftsmanship up close, from the raw materials and finishing processes, to meeting with the artisans that make Aldo Bernardi so special.

The beauty of the surrounding regions of Treviso, Padua and Vicenza also play an important role in the history of Aldo Bernardi with the architecture, history and artisanal heritage continuing to inspire so much of their work today. 🇮🇹

Choosing the right decorative outdoor lighting is important in any project, but when the surrounding environment is this striking, even more careful consideration is required.

The Penrose Lantern by our Belgian partners .be is the perfect choice for this stunning six-bedroom manor home in the heart of the Douro Valley.

With a backdrop as magnificent as this, it is important the lighting does not feel harsh or overpowering.

Instead, Penrose complements the surrounding landscape, through warmer colour temperatures, while the candle cover effect within the lantern adds further atmosphere and intimacy as daylight fades.

A Japandi-inspired home rooted in light, nature and calm 🍃💡

We are proud to introduce our latest project, a beautifully considered private home in London.

The Vision ✨

Working in collaboration with our good friends and colleagues at Cameron Peters, prior to their emigration to Australia, the lighting scheme was carefully curated to align seamlessly with our client’s overall vision;

‘a refined Japandi interior: calm, minimal, and uncluttered, yet warm, tactile and deeply connected to nature, with a biophilic approach.’

Bringing The Outside In 🍃

The home itself is already flooded with natural light and has expansive openings within the ground floor living area, framing views out to the garden. This strong connection to the outdoors set the tone for the lighting scheme, reinforcing the architectural and interior narrative throughout.

The Result💡

The final scheme is a cohesive, calming environment where lighting, architecture and materials work in harmony. Every fixture was selected not just for its aesthetic, but for how it contributes to the overall feeling of the space, one that is peaceful, elevated, and quietly luxurious. Following on from last week’s Aldo Bernardi feature, we wanted to spotlight some of their outdoor favourites.

The unique aging process on these shades is what makes them so special; each one naturally patinas over time, adding character and depth to exterior schemes.

Alongside the aesthetic, they’re incredibly well considered for projects:
- Handmade in Italy
- Different sizes available
- Durable tempered glass
- No aged brass or aged copper shade finish is ever exactly the same due to the unique aging process that is hand-applied by skilled Italians

We’re currently using these across a number of international projects via Lightingspiration Europe.

Our clients love them for hospitality terraces, private villas and coastal projects where materials need to age beautifully over time.
