Poinsettia

The poinsettia, with its vivid red bracts and deep green leaves, has become a symbol of celebration and warmth. Native to Mexico, it was revered by the Aztecs as a symbol of purity and rebirth.
The legend goes:
‘’On Christmas Eve, in a small Mexican town, a poor girl longed to leave a gift at the statue of Jesus Christ. But she had nothing to offer.
“Jesus will accept any gift, as long as it comes from the heart,” her father gently reassured her.
Moved by his words, the girl gathered dry flowers from the field and placed them before the statue in prayer. Miraculously, the withered bouquet blossomed into large, vibrant scarlet flowers on that sacred night.’’
Introduced to the wider world in the 19th century, it soon became intertwined with the spirit of the holiday season a reminder of generosity and togetherness.
