Some designs deserve a second chance and this one is proof that good design never really goes out of style.
Vintage lamp. New lampshade. Fresh perspective.
A customer contacted us because they had inherited a West German lamp base from their parents. It didn’t have a shade, but they had googled to see what the original shade was like from what they remembered as a child - they sent us the image with tree design.
We have made many a plain fat lava shade in neutral linens and bark cloth type fabrics, and many more in bright mid century colours and patterns, but this is quite an understated design.
Since it was very unlikely we could find any fabric with a similar printed design, we put our designer thinking hats on 🤔 and created our own interpretation of the original tree design, staying true to the character of the original lamp while giving it a fresh new look. Possibly hard to see in the photo, but it has some nice detail in the bark of the branches in tones of brown. Printed and then laminated onto a beige pvc to keep an aged antique aesthetic, (we decided it might look a bit silly in white). We think this new lamp shade does justice to the original base and we can’t wait to see a photo of them united together.
At 82cm high this is a tall one for sure, but we now have the ability to apply this design to our smaller models too.
We love helping people breathe new life into beautiful old lamps with handcrafted replacement lampshades, made in our Lancashire workshop.
