The best-laid plans . . .

I do love a plan. And I’m usually pretty good at sticking to one . . . until I get into creative mode & the sensible part of me forgets about any kind of plan!

I think that’s pretty normal when you’re a creative person (we’re just wired a bit differently 😉) & your head is brimming with ideas that you need to do NOW! There’s always something else I want to try, something I could do differently or that thing that suddenly seems like the best idea at completely the wrong time.

So here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes of Christmas prep at Kenzie Gabe & Co. HQ (it’s actually much, much worse than it looks 🫣).

✨ Anyone else find their best-laid plans go out the window as soon as a touch of inspiration strikes? . . .

One month in . . . ✨

Sometimes a little bit of frustration & feeling like you want to give up can be just the push you didn’t know you needed.

It’s strange to think that something I could never, ever envisage myself doing has turned out to be one of my best business decisions ✨.

And the biggest surprise (& relief!) has been how much less I find myself worrying & stressing about Instagram. The numbers, the reach, the constant pressure I was putting on myself to keep going & keep up . . . It all feels much more manageable now & I’m barely looking at the numbers!

It’s still early days for the website - this version is almost like my first draft! There’s still lots of little ideas that I’ve got that I’d love to bring to life in the new year. But for now, I’m just enjoying having a space of my own where I can share what I love creating.

If you haven’t had a little look round yet, you are always very welcome ❤️.

And a little thank you to everyone who’s visited, shared or placed an order this last month - it really does mean a lot ❤️.

A little autumn magic . . . 🍂

One of my favourite things about creating bespoke pieces is having the opportunity to make something that feels really personal to someone.

This autumn wreath for was such a lovely one to make, from working with a specific colour palette (mainly chosen by reels of cotton!) to including the little details that hold a special meaning, such as the thistles - a nod to Debra’s Scottish roots.

Despite the fact that bespoke orders can feel a little daunting, I love the fact that they encourage me to work with colour palettes I might not naturally choose, try something a little different & stretch my creativity along the way.

Sometimes, these can be the pieces you end up loving the most . . . This is definitely one of my favourite wreaths I’ve ever made 🤎.

Thank you for trusting me to create something special for you 🤎. I’ve loved every minute.

✨ What does autumn sound like to you? . . . 🍂

Quite a month, really . . . 🤎

I knew there was going to be a lot happening in September, but I don’t think i anticipated quite so much!

Setting up a website had been at the back of my mind for some time & I (really Mr. KG & Co.) had been working away at it for a while. But in true me fashion, it turned into a mad rush to get everything done in time for my autumn collection (the one I said I wasn’t going to do 😉). But now I have the website, I only wish I’d had the courage to do it sooner.

There’s been lots of lovely moments this month, but if I’m being honest, there’s also been a pretty major wobble going on behind the scenes. Whether that’s come from doing big things & pushing myself out of my comfort zone, or whether the wobble has pushed me to do the big things . . . who knows. But I got into that horrible cycle of comparing myself, feeling my work wasn’t good enough, questioning whether I should even be doing this.

But I somehow kept going (my stubborn streak!) & looking back, I’m so glad I did. I find it hard to acknowledge my achievements, but I do feel proud of all that I’ve accomplished this month.

I’d love a little breather now . . . But the best I can hope for is a sofa day in my hoodie (& trousers 🤪) doing admin, ahead of Christmas prep - the countdown is on, & I’m not liking the numbers 🫣.

🤎 I hope September has been a kind month for you with a few little opportunities to enjoy the start of autumn. What’s been your favourite part so far? . . .

2 years, a lot of learning & a little dollop of courage . . . ✨

What started as a little idea has somehow turned into something much bigger than I ever imagined. And that is largely down to the most amazing creative community on here 😘.

With my Occupational Therapy roots, I’ve always recognised the importance of having something purposeful to focus on, but the last few years have given me a whole new appreciation for just how beneficial creativity can be. It’s something I’ll always champion & encourage in others - you don’t have to be ‘good’ at creating for it to be good for you ❤️.

I’ve also had to push myself well outside of my comfort zone more times than I care to remember. I’m much more of a behind the scenes kind of girl, at my happiest making pretty things when no one is watching. But I know I wouldn’t have achieved half of what I have if I hadn’t pushed myself to do the things that feel a little bit scary.

I think sometimes you have to just give things a go & see where they take you.

❤️ Maybe this is your little nudge to give that scary thing a go too 😉 . . .
