What a great day Gosforth Central market yesterday. We will be back next month on the last Saturday of the month.

All taking were immediately spent on replenishing stock of glass and solder. Wow 2kg of solder is just under £100 now. I use a 60:40 mix of tin:lead so you don’t get a great deal when you factor in the weight of lead.

On the theme of solder use, how does the customer recognise a good piece of stained glass?

Don’t buy cheap imports , it’s not using solder but some sort of glue or resin. It will fall to pieces.

Don’t buy flat solder lines. It doesn’t provide the strength needed in the join, it will fall apart easily.

DO look 👀 for nice smooth rounded solder lines… they don’t skip on solder and look better aswell give a stronger join and more likely to last.

We are now at Tynemouth Market so come and have a look at my solder lines… smooth and rounded. Infact I have been complemented many times by customers in the past.

Donnie, what a man. After my accident in France, he has managed to get me home by booking flights ,etc and looked after me since I fell down some steps, including having to wheel me in to the ladies toilet at the airport. He was rewarded with a pint of Guinness at Dublin. With very little sleep, he didn’t want to let our customers down and managed the Tynemouth market by himself. What a guy I have.

Take a look at where we buy our wonderful wood from. We are like kids in a sweetie shop as we select our wood. All wood is naturally felled or wind fall. Always great to support a small family business.

Nothing better than working from home on a day like today. The sound of the birds and the warmth of the sun while foiling my glass pieces. Each piece of glass is wrapped in copper tape so I can solder it altogether. This will be one of my popular Sycamore Gap. It will have an aurora blue green sky so a little bit more unusual. I have a sycamore wood frame ready for it so it will be with us for sale tomorrow at the county show.
This will be our first County Show of the year and it looks like it will be an amazing event and the weather is going to be great too! Hope to see you there.
