Eep! So excited! All set up and ready for the The Royal Cheshire County Show tomorrow!

I’ll be in the Agro-Centre, where I’ll be doing weaving demonstrations. Come along and have a try! ❤️

I am excited to say that Mere Brow Makes will be at The Royal Cheshire County Show on the 16th and 17th June!

Come and see me in the Agri-Centre where I will be bringing along some of our home grown willow and demonstrating the ancient craft of basket weaving. Visitors are welcome to have a try for themselves!

Zarzo Baskets!

An incredible group of ladies came to the workshop yesterday to make Spanish style ‘Zarzo’ baskets. They involve a very different kind of weaving to a traditional basket, and while it is much less intensive on the hands, it still requires a huge amount of hard work, focus, patience and care.

It was a privilege to guide these ladies through the making process and getting to know them in between. A strong, gentle, fun and extremely tenacious group of women. We shared the highs and lows of making and of life! There were tears, laughter, hugs and some beautiful creations!

Willow ‘Zarzo’ Basket Workshop

We are running a brand new workshop on Friday 5th June and there are just a few spaces left.

We will be making these beautiful Spanish ‘Zarzo’ baskets, very different in style to the traditional stake and strand basket.

This basket is perfect for a beginner, especially as it is much easier on the hands and is much less intensive to make!

The day will start at 9:30 and finish at around 4:30 or when everybody has finished. As usual I will cook us a delicious vegetarian lunch and we will share the joy of creating in a supportive and friendly group ❤️.

The cost will be £70.

My brain is MUSH but I am so happy and proud of this amazing group of weavers!

All (apart from one) were absolute beginners but just look at their creations! They even managed void handles and a tricky rod border.

More importantly, we all got to share a sunny Saturday in a supportive, warm and fun community.

I feel so privileged that I get to do this ❤️

SUCH a fun group today! Lots of laughter, really great company and an absolute pleasure to teach 😊.

They were also real grafters and worked their socks off! They should be so proud of their beautiful creations ❤️❤️

Willow Flowers Workshop

Mere Brow Makes is based at Mere Brow Permaculture Project in Weaverham. I am a trained basket maker and run regular willow weaving workshops from our cosy space on the farm, all suitable for complete beginners (www.merebrowmakes.co.uk).

I love to create a welcoming and supportive space to create as a group and provide skilled guidance to ensure that everybody comes away with something handmade to be proud of! Our workshops are always fun and very friendly!

There are still a few spaces left on our willow flowers session on Friday 22nd May at 9:30 till 12:30! This is a great opportunity to have a go at working with this amazing natural material and learn some basic basketry skills (the centre of the flower is the base of a round basket!), without the intensity of a full day.

Your flower (s) will be as large or small as you wish to make them, you will have choices of colour and shape of petals etc - they are perfect as a wall hanging or garden feature. Everybody will work at their own pace but there should be time to make more than one flower in the session.

I am looking forward to this session and to seeing everybody’s unique creations! ❤️
