Not every hero starts with a sword.

Some start with a goblin, a questionable plan, and a dragon that definitely should have been left alone.

Like many goblin players, we didn't get the Secret Lair we were hoping for. We were sad.

So we did what any self-respecting goblin would do...

We made our own.

This slightly unhinged goblin & dragon playmat was born from equal parts disappointment, stubbornness, and a complete disregard for consequences.

We don't want fantasy approved by a committee. We want fantasy discovered in a damp dungeon.

This is the first piece in our new Dark Art Wizardry series.

More weirdness is coming.

We spend most of our time making things. 🧙‍♂️🧙

This time, we got to mess around with a real camera. On film, no less.

A few frames from a recent film photography session with my dad, shot indoors on a Canon AE-1 with flash. We really are a family-run business from start to finish.

Months of work later… the entire book has officially been sent off to the manufacturers. ⚡📖

This Gandalf spread is one of our favourites, so we really wanted to share it. 🎆

Swipe backwards through the process — from the finished illustration all the way back to some of the rough concepts, mechanic tests, and little sneak peeks inside the InDesign files.

👹 Horror art and MTG just belong together honestly.

There’s something about beautiful fantasy getting warped into something unsettling that hits way harder than another clean generic mana symbol floating in space.

I missed the Junji Ito cards the first time around… but honestly maybe that’s fine.
Because Rotworks was always built for the slightly warped individuals that want fantasy art with a little more bite to it.

More strangely beautiful things coming.

So nice to see these out in the wild.🌲

It genuinely means a lot knowing people are enjoying them — and even sharing D&D with their kids.

We’ve even seen a few baby reveals using our books, which is kind of surreal (and amazing).

Follow your dreams isn’t cheesy…
…it’s a path to building a life you actually want.

If you’ve got something you care about — properly care about — you can build a life around it.

It just might take longer than you’d like.

I was listening to a talk by Stan Lee the other day. He loved the idea of Spider-Man… but his publisher rejected it at first.
So he slipped it into a magazine that was on its way out anyway — nothing to lose.

That “throwaway” idea became Spider-Man.
His advice stuck with me:

Trust your gut. If you think something’s good, there’s a decent chance other people will too.

And even when it doesn’t land — you’re not starting from scratch next time.

You’re building something. Quietly. Piece by piece.
