Went to Rick Stein’s Cafe for lunch and it was every bit as perfect as I’d hoped. Wonderful food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Particularly liked that main meals can be done half-size for the adventurous child (like ours) who doesn’t want anything from the kids’ menu. Rick Stein Restaurants

A glimpse into the first chapter of my recipe book, Kat’s Kitchen. 2025 is the year when I finally take what’s in my head and put it down on paper. I’m having trouble getting all the words to fit into this photo for some reason, but hopefully it gives you an idea of what’s to come 🙌🏼.

Our Bangladeshi Boxing Day tradition continues, with homemade Poratas, Beef with Chana Dal, Tandoori Chicken, Roasted Cauliflower with Panch Puron and Basmati Rice with Peas. Oh and with us wearing Bangladeshi clothes, of course. This is my son’s plate at dinner time last night.

Sooo, it’s been a while since I last posted. A while back, I made porata for the first time, from scratch. It was a labour of love that took HOURS. But absolutely worth it as my son & husband loved them. I’m new to video-making, so bear with me… I’ve left some background noise on the video to keep it authentic! And because I don’t possess adequate editing skills to do anything different just yet. This does mean, however, that you get to hear the fizz and crackle of the ghee when I fry the porata at the end. Hope this is interesting for those who love this most divine of South Asian dishes. (one day)

Tonight, I made Nigella Lawson ‘s Prawn & Mango Thai curry, with a few changes. I added fresh green chillies in right at the start, used a whole jar of red curry paste, omitted the butternut squash, and added peas in towards the end. Served with sticky Jasmine rice. What a great mid - week recipe! Will be making this again 😋

In Bangladesh, one of my favourite side-veg dishes, is potatoes fried with lots of different green vegetables, with little spice but still lots of flavour with the ghee, garlic and panch puron. I tried making one today, with simple green beans. Turned out ok!

My 5 year old half-Bangladeshi-half-English son, asked me to make Chicken & Potato Curry. Few things could make me happier than knowing that he’d like me to make him one of the most traditional home-cooked Bangladeshi dishes there are. So here it is, with my Mango Dal, Basmati Rice and steamed broccoli. He loved it and I loved his smile as he ate it.
