Happy September everyone and here's hoping for good month. Things picked up a bit in August and I seem to be getting a bit more traffic coming into my Etsy shop which is encouraging, and I hit 700 sales which I 'm delighted about✨

I haven't been as active in the sewing room, what with the heat and other things going on, but I have been focusing on the smaller items and am going to try a new tactic. Generally, the things I make are one-offs and once sold, rarely repeated. That however is a lot of effort with the photography, video and listing. So, for the smaller things such as card and coin purses, key fobs, glasses cases etc, I'm going to be batch making, or at least make sure I have enough fabric to replenish stock once it sells. That way, I don't have to spend time with the fluff and have more time for sewing! I'm also hoping that the Etsy algorithm likes it too as I think it favours repetition😆

My larger bags however, are likely to still be one of a kind, and I have something new in my head which I may start tomorrow💜🐈‍⬛

It's August and the sun is shining...so I've been knitting woolly hats!

Of course I don't expect to sell any right now, but I'm trying to be organised and get some made and listed so they're there ready in my shop when the temperature drops and we're all whinging and whining about how cold it is😂

A little update on how my Handmade Bosses training is going. I’m a few weeks in and wow, it’s made me stop and reflect. The first part takes you back to basics and examines what you want from your business and where you are now. It looks at mindset, motivation and core values – something I’ve never even thought about. Coming up with my top 5 was harder than I thought, as so many things are important to me, but I did and I thought I’d share them with you.

🌈Joy: Joy for me as a maker, as I absolutely love what I do and never want it to become a chore, and joy for my customers when they receive and use their new purchase.

✨Quality: I take real pride in what I do, carefully selecting gorgeous fabrics and hardware and making sure everything is constructed to my best ability and made to last. I’m very self-critical and will often unpick or deconstruct something if I’m not happy with it. Some things end up in the reject box!

💜Uniqueness: Whilst you might see similar styles of bags, purses and hats elsewhere as I do use paid patterns, you won’t find my combinations anywhere else. I love taking gorgeous fabrics to create something unique and many of my pieces are one of a kind.

🎁Thoughtfulness: This runs through the whole process, from deciding what to make and how it can solve a problem, to helping customers and packaging their order. What do people really want, and how can it help them, practically or simply to look and feel great?

⚖️Balance: I could happily craft all day, but I do have a husband and 6 cats to consider and I’m mindful not to get totally absorbed. Paul and I have days where we do our own thing, and others where we plan something together. We love a night away in our motorhome, often with a bike ride, or just driving somewhere pretty with a sandwich! We always come together in the evenings and sewing just feels wrong, although I will knit in front of the TV!

The training has only scratched the surface, and I can’t wait to get onto the juicy stuff, but I’m taking it slowly as the foundations need to be laid first.

And now I’m curious... am I the only one who’s never thought about core values until now? 🤔 Let me know what your top ones are!

I'm trying to be a bit more thoughtful about what I make and when, so I can have things ready for when the demand will be higher and the lovely Etsy algorithm has had a chance to process my listings and (hopefully) push them out to the right audience.

This one I was probably a little late with but might just have got away with it. Will it sell before Halloween? I'm hoping it will be seen before then, but if you love sugar skulls, then why wait!
