Inspired by the fabulous Gazi Pir Scrolls in The British Museum. The Gazi Pir was a Bengali warrior who lived in the 12th or 13th century. He was said to have magical powers over wild creatures. The Gazi Pir Scroll tells his story through beautiful illustrations.
The crocodile is in the river against a beautiful apricot swirly sky. Fish swim around and frogs sit on the lily pads.
Butterflies flit around the scene and hover above the floral border.
My crocodile snaps at a leaping fish who in turn jumps to catch a smaller prey.
I have used traditional floral shapes from hand blocked paper and fabric to create this lush border.
There is a beautifully patterned outer border inspired by Indian embroidered braid.
Embroidered details are added in gold lame thread and Stranded Cotton. Crocodile teeth and butterfly antenna in straight stitch and some French knots in the flowers.
The design is sewn dramatically in rich colours on a dark background and would present an absorbing project to the needle-worker who likes a challenge.
There's always something interesting to stitch whether you are working on the crocodile or the patterned borders.
Sewn using Counted Victorian cross stitch, no need for a frame. Please note that this is sewn on blank canvas.
This Animal Fayre Designer Tapestry kit contains everything you will need to make it. There’s loads of wool, a pattern folder, wool organiser cards to keep everything neat and safe.
For beginners, I have included detailed instructions and my contact details in case you need more help!
There’s an excellent, high quality chart which shows you exactly where to place your stitches, even better, you can share the chart with friends when you have finished your beautiful needlework!
There are a few handy extras such as an organza wool bag and a couple of organiser cards to keep your wools tidy and ready for when you will need them.
I’ve popped in two needles so you have a spare.
The whole kit is in a lush black gift bag.
