GETTING KNOTTED!

I've standardised my lead making to a certain extent, using a box weave on the short leads, and a round weave on standard and long leads, but that doesn't mean that I dont look and trial other knots and weaves.

Take the Sanctified knot, which I showed in a previous post introducing Arbuthknot, the collar jig.

The knot appeared on my horizon, and instantly said 'I want to be a collar', so I duly obliged in duplicate, making two.

Now the Shark's Jawbone (who thinks of these names?) shown in 1st picture hovered into view the other day, asking to be a candidate for a small dog's collar. Yes Barney, we are looking at you! The name, however, put me off. The knot's name I mean, not Barney's!
I didnt feel it was right to put a shark anywhere near a small dog.🐕

Upon further reflection I've changed my mind and will probably use a Cobra knot, shown in 2nd picture, small, neat, and possibly not much more suitably named than a Shark's Jawbone!🫍🐉.

Do you agree?

I’ve Started Making Christmas Baubles. This Is Not A Drill.

I'm getting ready for Christmas! And I never thought I'd be saying that at the start of October!

As someone who finds Christmas challenging on many levels, my preferred method of dealing with it is to ignore it. I'm very happy that other people enjoy every minute — that's great — but I'm more of a do as little as I can get away with type.

My ideal Christmas Day is to sling something tasty in the slow cooker, then go out for the day to Keswick and the Newlands Valley, with sandwiches and a cup of coffee.

But this Christmas is different. I am taking my responsibilities as the proprietor of Loops and Leads seriously.

I've started making Christmas tree crochet baubles.
Yes, really. I have.

The sun is shining, it's 18 degrees outside, and I'm making baubles. For Christmas.

It's a profound moment, requiring a pause for contemplation.

And what's next? I hear you cry.

No idea, comes my reply. But I daresay someone will tell me I Really Must Make This.
All sensible suggestions considered! 🎄

Tuesday Market in Penrith will be missing two traders tomorrow the 6th.
Both Rachel with Eat her gluten free cookies and Jennifer with Loops and Leads are doing other necessary activities, but we'll both be back the following Tuesday 13th.

A little bit of Loops & Leads 💚

Paracord is a wonderfully versatile thing.

Yes, there are dog leads and collars — strong, practical and made to be used. But there are also lanyards, keyfobs, carabiner clips, Worry Wizards and all sorts of little useful things that start with a length of cord and end up as something rather lovely.

And, because apparently one craft wasn't enough, there’s crochet too! 🧶 Bags, blankets, little useful things and the occasional completely unnecessary-but-I-had-to-make-it item.

Everything is handmade here in Cumbria, one loop at a time, and very definitely Inspired by Gus. 🐾

If you like useful things with a bit of character, you might find something you didn't know you needed. 😄

Loops & Leads — handmade in Cumbria. 💚

Unpacking a box

How exciting is this! I have not 1, not 2, but 3 deliveries coming my way this week. One is full of yarny squishiness, the other 2 are from my paracord suppliers in Holland.

Before anyone says about buying British, I would do so gladly, so if anyone knows of a British supplier I'll happily take a look.

Anyway, back to my boxes. I know it is ridiculous to be excited over deliveries when I know exactly what's in them as I do the ordering!

Come to think of it, I do everything else too as there's only me...

So the first box arrived today. Cue fanfare and a video.

NEW from Loops & Leads — GET-ME-HOME. 🪢
A compact 200 cm length of paracord, ready for those “oh bother!” moments —a broken rein or chewed lead, emergency repairs when camping, or simply when you need a bit of strong cord and haven't got any.
It packs down small, so it's easy to keep in your pocket, bag, saddle kit or camping gear.
When you need it, release it and you have 2 metres of cord ready to use.
£10 — Handmade in Cumbria.
Because sometimes a little bit of “just in case” is exactly what you need. ❤️

It’s market day tomorrow, and I hope to see you there. Do come and say hello — I’d love to see you.
Just a little advance notice, too: neither Rachel from Eat Her Gluten-Free Cookies nor Loops & Leads will be at the market on Tuesday 6 October.
But don’t worry — we’ll both be back the following week! 😊

Friday is pickle day
I've had a complete change of activity today and am making pickles.

Why this domesticity, you ask? I will tell you.

I ordered a veg box from Petite Peonys, which arrived on Tuesday. I like to support them as the veg is really fresh, and he pays the farmers what the produce is worth, and ships it out from their own farm near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

Imagine my delight/horror when I opened the box and found kilos of potatoes, carrots, parsnips. There's red onions and white, beetroot, sprouts, plus kale, broccoli, pointed cabbage, red cabbage, apples, pears, and a cauliflower as big as my head.

I love veg, but there's far too much for me to eat sensibly, so pickles it is. 😄

I'm at the Evergreen Centre in Penrith on Sunday from 10 till 4, so do come along to say hello. It would be lovely to see you! 😊
