Well, this little chap certainly made quite the entrance! His introduction post last week has now had over 25,000 views.

I’m not going to lie… I’m running on very little sleep. Anyone who knows me knows I’m hopeless without a decent, uninterrupted night’s sleep! But I’m sure it’ll all be worth it in the end.

Tonight Bruce got a much closer introduction to the sheep than just watching them through the kitchen window. He’s barked and growled at them a few times over the last week, but that’s settled down a lot already. This evening we stopped the traffic while the sheep were moved from one park to another ready for shearing. There were plenty of sheep running about, yet he took it all in his stride and seemed surprisingly relaxed, lying down beside me.

One thing I’ve noticed though… he’s definitely much braver when there’s a fence or some other obstacle between him and whatever he’s investigating! The other night he was growling at a big Boxer dog… then promptly hid behind me afterwards. 😂

After all that excitement this evening, he curled up on my lap and snoozed for a couple of hours.

Now the only question is… what time will he decide we’re starting the day tomorrow? 🐑🐶💙

Meet Bruce. ❤️🐾
I thought it was about time I introduced you all to the newest member of the household.
Bruce is my 11-week-old Border Collie, and with a bit of luck (and a lot of patience!), he’ll be the next sheepdog here on the croft.
It’s only been a few days, but he’s already completely stolen my heart. He’s got the loveliest temperament, is full of confidence, and is into absolutely everything.
His favourite treats so far? Watermelon 🍉 and carrots 🥕.
He’s also decided that Cailean the 16 year old collie, is his new best friend.
If it wasn’t for Cailean’s failing joints, eyesight and hearing, he’d still be out gathering sheep. The desire is still there, his body just can’t keep up with him anymore.
Watching these two together has been one of the loveliest parts of bringing the pup home.
Bruce clambers all over him, steals treats (yes… straight out of Cailean’s mouth! 🙈), and launches himself around with all four legs in the air. I can’t help but think of Scrappy-Doo shouting, “Puppy Power!”
Cailean takes it all in his stride… until toys are involved that is!
Bruce has already discovered that anything in Cailean’s immediate vicinity is very much Cailean’s, whether it actually belongs to Bruce or not. He’s had a couple of firm reminders and even been gently flattened by one enormous paw but that doesn’t seem to put him off. He just bounces straight back for another try! 😂
Yesterday I witnessed the sweetest thing. Cailean rolled onto his back in the middle of the lawn with all four paws in the air after playing with a ball. Bruce toddled over, watched him… and did exactly the same. I didn’t catch it on camera, but it was one of those wee moments that made me stop and smile.
If Cailean keeps teaching him the ropes, I have a feeling my job is going to be a whole lot easier.
Bruce even got cuddles from the postie today, and I suspect he’ll be collecting plenty more admirers over the coming months.
Something tells me these two are going to be the very best of pals. ❤️🐾

A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by at the Handmade Harris & Artisan Market in Tarbert over the past couple of days. It was lovely seeing so many familiar faces, meeting new ones and having a proper catch up. Thank you to everyone who bought flowers, stopped for a chat or simply came over to say hello. It really mean a lot.

A special mention to Audrey T for popping in too. It was so lovely to see you! And I hope you enjoy HebCelt!! 🎶

I’ve had Norrie "Tago" MacIver’s new single on repeat ever since it was released. It’s a total ear worm!! I don’t think I’ve heard a song that captures quite so well how I’ve been feeling since moving home. After 30 odd years away, I’m still finding my feet. It feels like I’m rediscovering where I belong.

In true Sheena fashion, I haven’t exactly eased myself back into island life… I’ve somehow ended up with a retired sheepdog, croft, sheep and what feels like a lifetime’s worth of jobs to do! It’s slightly terrifying, kinda exhausting and I probably should have known better… but where’s the fun in that, eh? 😂

People often assume crofting and shepherding are men’s work, but I can’t see any reason why they should be. If the guys can do it, so can I. 💪

So… I’m now on the lookout for a young sheepdog to train as a working dog. If anyone knows of one, or can point me in the right direction, I’d be incredibly grateful.

And one last thing… where are all the island shepherdesses? Surely I can’t be the only woman daft enough to think this sounds like a good idea! If there are more of us out there, I’d love to hear from you. And if there aren’t… perhaps it’s time there flipping well were! 🥰 🐑 🐶

💐 Back on the islands and looking forward to meeting you.

I’ll be at The Quality Craft Emporium & Hebridean Experiences at the Cabarfeidh Hotel, Stornoway, on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th June, from 10am to 4pm both days.

After 30 years away, it feels rather special to be bringing my Harris Tweed® flowers home and sharing them alongside so many talented island makers.

There will be:

📖 Opportunities to learn about our weaving heritage
🚌 A FREE shuttle bus running from Stornoway town centre (beside Island Spirit) to the Cabarfeidh and back

What a way to end this chapter…

This here is the final piece of work to leave my Perth studio before I make the move home to the Isle of Lewis.

Sadly, I can’t share the entire piece just yet, but all will be revealed in due course.

What I can show you is one of my favourite details.

If you look closely, you’ll spot my Maker’s ID mark (HTF) hidden amongst the leaves. You’ll find that mark somewhere on every piece I create.

Together with the official Harris Tweed® swing tag, it tells the story of where the piece came from. The Orb Mark confirms that the cloth was genuinely handwoven in the Outer Hebrides, while my Maker’s ID identifies me as the creator of the finished work, allowing its origin to be traced back to my workshop.

A small detail, perhaps.

But behind that small detail lies years of learning, refining, experimenting, making mistakes, solving problems and finding better ways to do things.

People often see the finished flower.

They don’t always see the journey it took to get there.

Where I am today was once only a dream. A simple idea that began with me making my own wedding bouquet all those years ago. I never forget where I came from, how it all started, or where this journey has led.

As I pack up my studio and prepare for the next chapter, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for every lesson, every customer, every opportunity and every person who believed in my work along the way.

Next stop: Lewis.

And I can’t wait to see what grows there. 💐
