I learn something from every project, but heritage projects probably teach me the most.

Old buildings come with challenges, but they also provide lots of opportunities. They force you to think differently, which often leads to some of the best design solutions.

This little bathroom at Pond Cottage, Gnoll Estate Country Park was a perfect example.

Working within the existing roof meant there wasn’t enough head height for the shower, so it had to be brought forward. This created an awkward area of dead space behind it — rather than lose it, we used the space to create much-needed storage, including a linen cupboard built into the eaves.

It’s a small detail, but in a holiday cottage where every bit of space needs to work hard, it makes a real difference.

This was part of a much wider heritage project and a great collaboration between Neath Port Talbot Council, Hiraeth Architecture and Andrew Scott Ltd.

A little bit of life behind the scenes 👀

I don't share myself on here very often, so I thought I'd make use of my shiny new headshot by Sian Siân | Cardiff Family Photographer and say hello 👋

It's been a really busy few months, with lots of different projects at very different stages. Some days I'm surrounded by samples trying to make a scheme come together, some I'm out on site, some I'm sourcing furniture and some involve finding out what's been hiding underneath a floor for the last hundred years!

I'm really lucky that my work is so varied. At the moment I'm working on everything from offices and hospitality spaces to some beautiful heritage buildings, as well as a few smaller projects that I'm really excited about.

It's definitely not always as glam and polished as the finished project photos make it look — there are plenty of building sites, dust, boxes of samples, last minute decisions and testing out chairs in car parks 😂

But I love all of it!

Lots going on and lots more to share soon 🤍

STILLROOM APOTHECARIES | CARDIFF
Stillroom Apothecaries

Such lovely words from Alex 🤍

Alex is an incredibly creative person with a really strong sense of what he wanted Stillroom to be, which made this such a straightforward and enjoyable project to work on.

One of my favourite details was bringing the ceiling colour down onto the walls, visually reducing the height and making the space feel warmer and cosier.

It was a genuinely collaborative process from start to finish, and I loved helping bring Alex’s ideas and the Stillroom brand to life.

I need to go in and get some professional photos but for now I'll share my snaps from the launch party.

Thank you Alex, it was an absolute pleasure to work with. x

I'd love to tell you my desk is always tidy, beautifully organised and Pinterest-worthy... but that would be a complete lie.

I wish I could say I'm one of those designers with a spotless desk and perfectly lined-up samples, but that's just not me.

Paint charts, fabrics, tiles, timber and metal finishes... all spread out while I chop and change my mind fifty times before everything finally clicks. Throw in a song lyric that's been stuck in my head for three days and you're pretty much experiencing the inside of my brain!

It's messy. It's noisy. It changes about a hundred times.

Organised chaos? Maybe.

It's my creative process, and I'm owning it. It's worked pretty well for me so far!

I do apologise to anyone who's visited over the past couple of weeks... it's been particularly creative! 😂

Patterns & Pastries!

Apparently my mood boards now come with matching cakes... 😂

Last week, a supplier arrived with these cakes and, completely by chance, they matched the finishes schemes I was working on almost perfectly.

That got me thinking... inspiration can come from absolutely anywhere.

So here's a challenge...

Comment with a food item, and I'll turn it into a mood board. No cheating—I have to use your suggestion! 🍰🎨

"Working with Rhian was one of the best decisions I made during the creation of The Cold Room." – Julian Phillips

Receiving feedback like this is incredibly special.

The Cold Room was a truly collaborative project, and I'm so grateful to Sustainable Studio Architects for bringing me on board to develop the interior design and help bring the vision to life. It was a privilege to work alongside such a talented team and a client who fully embraced the design journey.

Together, we created a space that feels calm, welcoming and restorative, carefully balancing the practical requirements of a cryotherapy and wellness facility with an interior that feels anything but clinical.

From the initial concepts and material palettes through to joinery, lighting, finishes and styling, every detail was considered with the user experience at its heart.

A huge thank you to Julian for your trust and for such generous words, and to Aled at SSA Architects for inviting me to be part of such a rewarding project.

Collaboration like this is what great design is all about.

Such a lovely evening at the Women In Property UK event, sponsored by BLOKKA

It's always nice to get out, catch up with people in the industry and meet some new faces.

But these three... some of my absolute faves. ❤️ So much love for them. We always end up laughing, and events like this are just better when they're there.

I seem to have found myself designing quite a few kitchens lately, so I'm making a conscious effort to get to know more local manufacturers, explore new finishes and keep up to date with the latest products.

That made Cosentino's event at Greens Luxury Kitchens in Mumbles the perfect excuse to spend an evening surrounded by beautiful kitchens, inspiring materials and great conversations. It also didn't hurt that it meant a trip to Mumbles on one of the hottest days of the year. I was literally melting!

There's nothing quite like seeing materials in person, appreciating the craftsmanship and discussing products with the people who know them best. It all helps when it comes to creating spaces that are not only beautiful but right for each individual client.

A huge thank you to Cosentino and the team at Greens Luxury Kitchens for such a lovely evening. I came away with plenty of inspiration and a few ideas for current and future projects.
