I made time this week to visit the May Morris exhibition at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight — and I am so glad I did. May Morris was William Morris's daughter and an extraordinary designer and embroidered. The exhibition is shows some beautiful textile work — intricate embroideries with flowing botanical motifs, tulips, honeysuckle, grape vines — all that gorgeous repeating pattern work that feels so alive and natural and the use of wooden block printing just enhanced the experience even more. Standing in front of the 'Tulip and Artichoke' fire screen panel May designed and embroidered herself. As someone who loves pattern and botanical design, it was so inspiring. If you're anywhere near the Wirral, it's well worth a visit — and it's free entry! You can find out more here: https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/lady-lever-art-gallery 🌸 Catherine

Block printing workshops in north Wales

Busy morning out in the flower garden cutting before the rain came in — and I'm so happy I did! Look at what was waiting out there: cosmos in the most beautiful raspberry and blush pinks, gorgeous creamy hydrangea head, dahlias just coming into their own, globe amaranth, statice, strawflowers in the loveliest peachy-pink tones, and roses too. The log cabin table was absolutely covered by the time I was done — buckets and bud vases everywhere, every one of them full of colour.

It got me thinking — about what to grow next year, think we will need more land 😁 🌸

The cutting garden just keeps giving! 🌸 This basketful is fresh from the garden — deep crimson and pink strawflowers (Helichrysum), gorgeous white ones that look almost like they've been dipped in cream, and those vivid purple globe amaranth bobbing away at the top. I absolutely love this time of year when the everlastings are at their best. The colours in this basket are just beautiful, and I can't quite believe we're still harvesting this much. Catherine 🌸

What a lovely morning we had! It was so wonderful to meet some new faces and spend time together sowing autumn seeds for the cutting garden. There is something really special about this time of year — getting seeds into trays and thinking ahead to all the beautiful flowers that will come next summer. I loved watching everyone sow their seeds and ask such brilliant questions. It really made me so happy to share that knowledge together. A big thank you to all the lovely ladies who came along this morning. 🌿
