Loved working on this custom watercolour / illustration of this gorgeous property in the Douro Valley, Portugal. Such a pleasure to bring it to life and it made the perfect present recreated into postcards for the lucky guests that stay there ❤️.

🌸 LONG TAILED TIT 🌸

This one is a new personal favourite. Look at it's little floof head?!

Learning time... these tiny hedgerow/garden birds build domed nests that they line with thousands of feathers. They get their name from their long ass tails that are much, much longer than their round little bodies... They're also chatty little things and usually hang out in groups of 8-20 because they clearly give no ***** about lockdown rules.

Ever the philsophy nerd, Wikipedia tells me that the genus for these t**s is called Aegithalos which Aristole often used for Europeans t**s.

Nature lesson over. You're very welcome. Let me know if you spot one!

🦉SCOPS OWL 🦉

This little Scops Owl really tested my skills but I love its expression. It was painted for my series 'Birds of the Douro' in Portugal.

Did you know that name comes from the latin Otus (for 'eared owl') and Ancient greek skopos (for watcher). I think that's a pretty good description if you ask me 👀👀👀

You'll find these small owls (only around 20cm tall) around southern Europe eastwards into western and central Asia so sadly no such luck seeing them here in the UK apparently. Such beautiful little birds though.
