I was asked to make a scented oil reed diffuser. I found some lovely spalted beech, filled the cracks with black resin and added two ivory coloured rings to the stem. I hope the new owner likes it.

Sometimes you have to experiment to know what works and what doesn’t. This little thing spinning at 1500 rpm was enough to know, maybe it should’ve stayed in the pile.

Love a bit of spalting. Did you know it’s caused by a type of fungus? It’s actually the start of the wood breaking down and beginning to rot. But if caught it time, it produces wonderful patterns.

Made from a single piece of wood this rattle has a captive ring in the centre. Both ends were hollowed out and filled with dry rice. The colours were added using food safe paste.

I love working with sycamore, it turns so well, this rippled look is fantastic when it catches the light.
