Today I turned up at Skirlington Market for the last one at its current site. And honestly? I so wanted to stay in bed. But I got myself up and braved the elements, despite the horrendous weather.
I’d love to say my sales were amazing, but sadly, they weren’t. Like previous weeks, I probably barely covered my costs. Lately, I’ve been taking around a fifth of what I was taking this time last year, and as much as I love what I do, that’s hard.
Maybe this is me being led towards something new. ❤️
I have absolutely LOVED my time trading at Skirlington. I’ve met such a broad mix of people, both traders and customers, and so many lovely, warm-hearted souls. That’s what makes saying goodbye to this place so emotional.
This business began in October 2023, after I tried to end my life following the loss of my previous business. It grew out of a very difficult chapter, and it has meant so much more to me than simply making sales. The chats, the laughter, the familiar faces and the kindness have all been part of that.
I’ll still be appearing at various Christmas markets, but perhaps now is the time to take a breath and reevaluate my plans for the New Year.
Maybe things will change. Maybe you’ll see me at the new site. Who knows? I haven’t got all the answers just yet.
But for now, to everyone who has bought from me, stopped for a chat, offered encouragement or shown me kindness along the way… thank you.
You’ve meant more than you know. ###
