This summer i wrapped up a fantastic project in a beautiful farmhouse property in Swavesey — a full set of 22 custom-made windows, designed and manufactured from scratch and fully fitted By us.

The original windows were a stormproof design which in my opinion are the worse design window invented. Which speaks for itself when the last windows were only in for 10 years. But the client wanted something cleaner, sleeker, and more traditional… so we transformed them into flush casements. The result? A timeless look with modern performance.

Each window was handcrafted from high-quality Sapele timber, giving them strength, durability, and a stunning finish that will last for years to come. 🌳

There’s nothing better than seeing a home completely lifted by new joinery — and this one truly came to life!

🎉 10 Years Self-Employed Today! 🎉

Habitat Joinery has been running for around 12 years now, but today marks a really special milestone for me personally. It’s been exactly 10 years since I took the leap from being partly employed to going fully self-employed — all in on building the business and chasing a dream.

At the time, I had no idea where it would lead. I just knew I wanted to create something of my own and make a living doing what I love. A decade later, I’m proud (and still a bit amazed) to say I’m still here, doing just that.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to work on some incredible properties and craft countless unique pieces of joinery. Each project, big or small, has helped shape Habitat Joinery into what it is today.

Creating Custom Products To Support Those In Need

So an existing customer popped into my workshop and told me that he had taken on another shop, so could I fit him in to renovate it. Time was massively against me on this one with the amount of work I had already, but I’ve managed to get it done. So here’s the before and after pictures. Everything bespoke made at the workshop first and fitted. My customer yet again barely gave me anything to work off and told me he trusts me to do what I want. So I also had to design it. Some decorating left to finish but here’s some pictures for you to see. This project was on James street in Cambridge if anyone is passing.

22 windows into manufacturing at the moment. All being made out of Sapele. This one’s keeping me busy. Especially with running another job alongside it of a renovation of a salon in Cambridge for a customer than I have done his previous hair salons.

2 gates I made for a property in swavesy. These were made from European oak. The customer wanted me to make these to match a gate that he loved the design of from a church in Broughton. He wanted them engraved with something personal to him, which I was going to do myself. But I got in contact with a bloke who done it for a living. And thought it would be a privilege to have him do something on my work. The carving business has been in the family for over 200 years with them doing a lot of work in many historic buildings and a lot of work for members of the royal family. To which we have kept in contact as he loves my work and he wants to work on pieces together if we can. His skills are amazing. These gates were extremely heavy but love that they will be part of an amazing property for many many years.

This is what specialised joinery is all about. Working in a grade 2 listed properties, making a wardrobe to match the other side and creating it like it’s always been there. Making everything match. Including mouldings on the timber the lot. It was made out of tulip wood with a hand painted finish by my decorator who always does an amazing job on these types of properties that benefit that hand painted finish rather than a spray finish.
This was one really happy customer and was lovely working on such an incredible property with future work in the pipeline 😄
